THE OPPORTUNITY:


Reporting to the Director of Programs and Evaluations, the Community Kitchen Assistant is an integral part of the Community Programs team.

This position supports the Senior Community Kitchens Coordinator in planning and facilitating community kitchen projects across all sites at The Stop.


KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist and support the Sr. Community Kitchens Coordinator with preparing, delivering and facilitating Community Kitchen programs, cooking classes, demonstrations, and workshops.
  • Assist to research, and develop tasty, nutritious and culturally specific recipes for regular programs and special events.
  • Support cooking teams during service (cross pollination, pop up kitchens) with preparation and delivery of cooking activity.
  • Assist Sr. Community Kitchens Coordinator with ongoing kitchen maintenance, inventory, cleanup, and sanitation.
  • Maintain updated Community Kitchen filing electronic and physical system (documents, photo albums, manual, guidelines, etc.).
  • Assist with outreach and evaluation activities for Community Kitchens.
  • Support volunteers, relief workers, and childcare providers as needed.
  • Build and maintain updated program directory, participants contact information and attendance lists.

GENERAL**:


  • Attend monthly allstaff meetings, team meetings, and other meetings related to job role and responsibilities.
  • Participate in agencywide events, as needed.
  • Maintain administrative records, as required.
  • Participate in training opportunities as required or requested.
  • Maintain knowledge of existing agency and program policies and procedures and implement them consistently.
  • Represent The Stop constructively when engaging with the public, and other organizations.
  • Commitment to work within an Anti-Oppression/Anti-Racism framework.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:


  • Educational background in social work/social services/human services or equivalent education and lived experience.
  • Previous line cook experience in community centres, a casual dining environment, catering, or currently studying in a culinary education program.
  • Crisis intervention, deescalation (CPI), First Aid / CPR, and other training as required by the organization.
  • Must have Intermediate Computer skills and knowledge (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Outlook).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative team player and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • Flexible schedule and availability to work some evenings during business days.
  • Highly developed interpersonal / communications skills and ability to build effective relationships with participants, team members and community partners.
  • Must be creative, energetic, flexible, selfmotivated, and detail oriented.
  • The ability to communicate in Spanish is an asset
  • Commitment to work within an Anti-Oppression/Anti-Racism framework.

Hours: 22.5 hours per week


Salary:
$25.05 per hour
