Position Description:


SickKids Brain - Mental Health Program & ABILITY Program:


Board Certified Behaviour Analyst:


SickKids is embarking on an ambitious Mental Health Strategy to improve child and youth mental health services and outcomes for the diverse populations we serve.

The enterprise-wide strategy leverages the strengths and assets of SickKids Hospital, the Centre for Brain and Mental Health, SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health and Learning Institute and the SickKids Research Institute.

Reporting through a matrix model that includes the Manager of Outpatient Mental Health Services and ABILITY program, the BCBA will play a lead role in guiding behavioural plans for complex patients treated at SickKids.

As part of two clinical teams (Acute Care Psychiatry Team and the ABILITY Program for patients with developmental disabilities and ASD), the BCBA will provide patient centred guidance and care with the goals of improving a trauma informed approach that optimizes safety for both patients and staff.


Here's What You'll Get to Do:

  • As a member of teams cross appointed to Psychiatry and Paediatrics provide assessment of behavioural problems with patients and caregivers in the context of medical and mental health services delivered across the organization.
  • Conduct environmental assessment from behavioural perspective.
  • Construct behavioural intervention and treatment plans in the context of hospitalbased services.
  • Work with staff mediators (e.g., DSW, CYC and RN staff) to support data collection and ongoing analysis.
  • Work collaboratively with the interprofessional team to provide and demonstrate applied behavioural interventions to manage behaviour and safety issues.
  • Utilize a mediator model for teaching caregivers appropriate response models.
  • Develop and implement training strategies to promote awareness and education across the hospital.
  • Support the supervision of students on placement.
  • Prepare and maintain timely documentation for the interprofessional team.
  • Participate in department and hospital wide committees and quality improvement initiatives.

Here's What You'll Need:


  • Master's degree in Applied Behavioural Analysis from a recognized university program.
  • Three to five years of experience working in a complex hospital or community environment with complex clinical populations inclusive of developmental disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Mental Health/Behavioral conditions.
  • Demonstrated assessment, behavioural analysis, and treatment planning skills in the context of managing complex behaviour.
  • Excellent clinical data analytic and data management skills in a healthcare environment knowledge of electronic health record systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patient and family centred care, principles of EDI and culturally informed care as well as the impact of social determinants of health on overall family health and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated capacity to prepare data driven reports, presentations.
  • Comfort and ability working in a highly accountable, measurement
- based environment.

  • Exemplary communication, interpersonal and group facilitation skills as well as a demonstrated ability to collaborate and cultivate productive relationships.
  • Capacity to work in a fastpaced dynamic environment with multiple and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work in a highly accountable, measurement informed environment
  • Flexible hours required but primarily working business hours onsite

Employment Type:


  • Fulltime, 1 year contract with opportunity for extension
