We are looking for someone interested in community-building and learning about the operational and financial management of a grassroots not-for-profit organization in Vancouver's historic Downtown Eastside.
The Operations Assistant supports the General Manager with regular tasks such as:
- working with volunteers, community groups, and other organizations to coordinate shared projects;
- writing, publishing, and updating website content;
- documenting report-writing and other procedures;
- assisting with facility maintenance;
- assisting the accounting team;
- working with staff to identify facility and program needs;
- providing coordination and support to volunteers and staff working on community programming events;
- preparing content for monthly e-newsletter and other publications.

- open to learning and gaining new experiences in a variety of ways and with a variety of people;
- attention to details in text, numbers, and interactions with people;
- comfortable with working in a digital environment, and interested and able to learn
- how to use new programs and apps;
- familiarity with Microsoft Office tools and efficient Windows computer navigation and searching;
- previous experience working with WordPress would be an asset;
- interest in Japanese-Canadian culture;
- full fluency in written and spoken English;
- fluency or experience in Japanese would be very beneficial.
Position term:
earliest mutually-agreeable date to 28 August 2024 (up to 16 weeks)
Hours per week: 30
Hourly wage:
$18 to $22/hr depending on experience
Eligibility:
- Post-secondary students of any age enrolled in a recognized Canadian post-secondary education institution (university, college, CEGEP, polytechnic).
- Student applicant must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- The student must also be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
