Position Summary


The IPAC Practitioner is responsible for assisting in the implementation and maintenance of an effective and progressive IPAC Program by: implementing and conducting patient surveillance activities according to the established criteria and evidence based research, managing outbreak investigations, implementing interventions to control the outbreak and performing final epidemiological outbreak analysis, by providing consultation to all clinical and non-clinical areas on matters of IPAC, by providing education, orientation and in-service to staff, liaising with the Medical Officer of Health and the Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit, by reviewing, revising and implementing infection control policies and procedures, performing designated administrative duties, participating in relevant professional associations, networking with peers, keeping current with IPAC literature standards and guidelines, and performing other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:


  • Education:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with baccalaureate degree in nursing and/or five (5) years acute care nursing experience OR Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) Diploma required.
  • Currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario or College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
  • CHICA recognized IPAC course certificate or diploma required or commitment to completing within 12 months of beginning employment.
  • Certification in Infection Prevention and Control through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology required within three (3) years of being hired.

Experience:


  • Five years recent nursing experience in an acute care setting or five years recent experience in a hospital laboratory including microbiology.
  • Previous experience as an Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner in a healthcare setting an asset.

Other:

  • Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle to provide client care / services offsite

  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislative requirements, medical/legal issues, and commitment to remaining abreast of changes.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate, coach, mentor and lead individuals/groups to achieve quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrated appreciation and respect for protocol, professionalism, and confidentiality.
