Overview
The QC/HS Field Supervisor is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of workplace field safety and quality programs.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Duties
- Assist to ensure the effective implementation of the Safety Management System
- Assess project compliance with the applicable safety codes, procedures, relevant documentation and commitments
- Ensure the maintenance of safety training records and safety documents
- Develop, implement, and oversee safety initiatives to ensure newly identified risks, hazards, or behaviours are managed effectively
- Ensure adequate correction measures are implemented in cases of noncompliance
- Assist Management in ensuring compliance at the work location
- Perform safety training for crew personnel on safe work practices, changes in regulations or standards and their safety responsibilities as required
- Review and revise safety procedures work instructions, risk assessments and JHA/JSA's as required
- Ensure regular site inspections are completed
- Manage and administer all project reporting requirements internally and externally
- Review and provide suggestions for equipment and PPE to be used on site
- Complete comprehensive safety reports of onsite findings, including correction plans as required
- Contribute to the success of the project's overall safety performance
- Support operations and functional management in the achievement of corporate initiatives
- Ensure leading and lagging indicators are tracked and monitored for improvement opportunities
Quality Duties
- Support the project team in achieving project objectives
- Oversee project quality to ensure all procedures are compliant with all applicable codes, standards customer expectations and policies
- Support the implementation of the Quality Management System
- Provide leadership and mentorship to personnel
- Oversee nonconformance and rework reporting systems
- Manage and perform audits worksites to ensure compliance of quality works to regulatory requirements, client specifications and the Quality Management System
- Manage and coordinate subcontractor relations and administrative processes relating to quality
- Review quality and accuracy of all material on site to ensure compliance with all project specifications
- Verify material delivered to site for integrity and correct quantities
- Collect MTR's (Material Test Reports) on all material on site and keep organized for referencing
- Develop and document Hydrotest plans
- Accurately transfer all field redlines to final asbuilt plans
- Reconstruct all modifications to final asbuilt plans
- Other duties and tasks as assigned. These duties may fall out of the scope as described to support the business in whatever capacity deemed required.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Occupational Health & Safety Certificate or other industry recognized training; and/or combination of education and relevant experience
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), an asset
- Ground Disturbance Level II
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and ability to provide a clean Driver's Abstract, an asset
- Must successfully complete preemployment drug and alcohol testing
Experience
- Minimum 35 years of experience in a safety related position in the construction industry.
Skills and Knowledge
- Understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Acts, Regulations and Codes (Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan) and how it pertains to daily field tasks.
- Proven understanding of the effective management of incidents and near hits
- Familiarity with relevant construction codes, standards, and practices
- Demonstrated conceptual, analytical, and problemsolving skills towards the generation of solutions and sound decisions
- Excellent communication skills: written and verbal skills, listening skills, proven attention to detail, and ability to develop positive working relationships
- Excellent computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook PowerPoint)
- High degree of initiative with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Excellent time management skills with ability to multitask and prioritize work
- Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fastpaced environment
- Ability to work in a growing, dynamic and changing environment
- Optimistic/collaborative approach and attitude towards work
Working Conditions
- This position is field based and often works within remote project locations.
- Travel and/or living in temporary accommodations may be required.
