Full Time Resiliency Outreach Worker

Position Summary:


  • Reporting to the Executive Director, this position will be responsible for ensuring the safe participation of youth accessing programs and activities at the Be YOUth Centre and the Resiliency Outreach Program.
  • This position will be approximately hours per week.
  • The Resiliency Outreach Worker will improve the physical, social, mental, emotional, spiritual and cultural health of youth, build resiliency in youth and provide safe social, recreational and employment opportunities for youth in the community and surrounding area through youth engagement activities, education initiatives and positive role modeling.

− Abide by the BYC Oath of Confidentiality and Policy and Procedure Manual.

− Be familiar with and follow the Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives of the BYC.

− Direct any questions or concerns from self, youth or members of the public to the
Executive Director.

− Participate in BYC meetings and team building sessions.

− Participate in any professional development workshops, training sessions and forums to foster professional development.

− Sound organizational and interpersonal skills.

− Reliable and dependable.

− Establish and maintain effective relationships within a team environment through respect, conflict resolution and active participation.

− Complete designated tasked in a timely manner and contribute ideas collaboratively.

− Work independently, but also in a team environment.

Communication:

− Demonstrate interpersonal communication skills (active listening, empathy, etc.)

− Use appropriate non-verbal behaviour (tone of voice, eye contact, etc.)

− Use assertiveness skills as a primary communication tool.

− Demonstrate strong presentation and group facilitation skills.

− Demonstrate clear, concise, consistent and accurate communication both written and verbally.

− Engage and build relationships with community partners.

− Knowledge of community groups, organizations and resources.

− Network with community partners to improve services and support for youth and build community capacity.

− Provide information and/or referrals for youth and families to access community resources.

Day to Day Operations of the BYC and Special Events
:

− Be aware of and receptive to what is taking place at the BYC during shifts worked.

− Ensure the safety of all participants at the BYC during shifts worked.

− Adapt activities to suit the needs of clients and encourage their involvement.

− Encourage youth to take responsibility for the BYC and the contents therein.

− Assist in the identification of needs/social themes at the BYC.

− Maintenance of the BYC including:

  • Daily Cleaning
  • Errands to various stores to replenish Centre supplies.
  • Icy Mountain Water to refill water jugs.

Facilitation of Related Programs and Activities:

− Support of coordination of BYC Specialized Summer and Winter community-based programming.

− Supervision and support of Community Service Youth/Alternative Justice Programs.

− Facilitation of Resiliency Outreach Work, maximum caseload of 5 clients.

  • Facilitation of family intakes. o Advocacy of client/family needs. o As needed consultation/communication with Mental Health therapists and other relevant service providers assisting the youth/family. o Solution Focused goal setting based on identified service's needs. o Coordination of weekly 3 hours sessions with clients. o Reporting of case notes for each session o Submission of Outreach expenses o Monthly file reviews with Executive Director

Reporting and Evaluation:

− Basic computer skills are an asset.

− Assist the Executive Director in the evaluation of programs by engaging youth in evaluations and giving constructive feedback on the outcomes of events.

− Follow BYC protocol for documenting client contact for the Outreach program and observe secure record storage practices.

− Report any illegal or questionable activities happening in or around the YWC to the
Executive Director & complete a BYC Incident Report Form.

− Fill out an Incident Report Form as per BYC policy/procedure for any incidents that take place and report to the Executive Director.

− Knowledge of legal reporting guidelines.


6.


Self:

− Set, maintain and communicate appropriate boundaries in a manner that is authentic, respectful, honest and clear.

− Actively seek and integrate supervisor and staff feedback.

− Identify signs of personal fatigue and workplace related burnout and practice self-care strategies.


7. Performs other duties as delegated by the BYC Executive Director.

Qualifications

Formal Education:

− Diploma/Degree in Child & Yo
