Opportunity

Investment Risk Management (IRM) is a department within the Risk Management division.

IRM supports AIMCo's investment decision-making processes by providing insight and independent oversight of AIMCo's investment risks at the client total portfolio, total fund, asset class, product, and strategy levels.

IRM is organized into the following teams to provide dedicated coverage of investment risks:

Client Total Portfolio, Total Fund, Public Equity, Fixed Income, TAA, Private Debt & Loan, Infrastructure, Renewable Resources, Real Estate and Private Equity.


IRM is supported by the Investment Risk Analytics (IRA) department, which is responsible for the accurate modelling and the timely measurement and reporting of investment risks.


Reporting to the Managing Director, Investment Risk Management, this position within the IRM team is responsible for overseeing the implementation of new multi-asset class risk system as part of AIMCo's business transformation and data modernization efforts.

This is a significant multi-year effort that will ultimately provide more timely and accurate risk information to stakeholders.


This is a high profile role within Risk Management, understanding the risk information needed to support AIMCo's investment decision making and ensuring that this information is delivered as part of the business transformation and data modernization efforts.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing and maintaining relationships and ongoing dialogue with the senior leadership within the IRM and IRA teams and the CRO
  • Leading the implementation of AIMCo's new multiasset class risk system, including linkages to the broader business transformation and data modernization efforts
  • Coordinating between the IRM and IRA teams to prioritize and develop new methodologies and risk analytics during the transition
  • Researching and recommending modeling improvements, in consultation with IRM risk managers and IRA, to improve the risk measurement of exposures
  • Contributing to the strategy of the Investment Risk Management department
  • Contributing actively to the development of AIMCo's risk management framework and to the Investment Risk Committee, including assisting with the development of risk policies and associated methodology documents.
  • Staying abreast of the investment risk technologies landscape and data/systems practices employed by peer funds.
  • Contributing to the development of organizational risk culture awareness and personal responsibility
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline (Finance, Economics, Financial Mathematics, Computer Science). Master's, Ph.
D., or the completion of a relevant professional designation (e.g. CFA, PRM, FRM etc.) is a plus.

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in investment risk, with significant emphasis on risk systems and data from a total fund/portfolio perspective. Experience with data management/governance a plus
  • Expert knowledge across multiple risk types (in particular market risk, liquidity risk, credit and counterparty risk)
  • Initiative and the ability to grasp new concepts, driven and results oriented
  • Thorough with attention to detail and an ability to prioritize and organize
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Able to influence senior management and peers, comfortable speaking up and providing counterbalance, while simultaneously maintaining collaboration
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to AIMCo's core values of excellence, transparency, humility, integrity, and collaboration, and inspires the same in others
Success Measures


Year one success will be achieved by developing strong partnerships within Risk Management, as well as with other functional areas such as Data & AI, Performance and Investment Management.
