    About the Job

    Reporting to the Environmental Services Supervisor, the Environmental Technician is responsible for the stewardship and health of County forests. The incumbent will oversee the Bruce County Forest Conservation By-law and be appointed as the County's Noxious Weed Inspector under the Ontario Weed Control Act. The incumbent is also responsible for providing outreach and extension services to the Bruce County community on all matters related to forest health.

    Requirements

    - Two-year post-secondary Forestry Technician or Environmental Technician diploma

    • Two years of previous experience in a related field
    • Valid Driver's License
    • Ability to positively identify all tree species in all seasons, including stumps or logs
    • Ability to positively identify forest pests whether insect, disease, or animal
    • Ability to identify noxious weeds listed in the Provincial Weeds Act and knowledge of recognized destruction methods
    • Familiar with forest inventory, including ecosystem management
    • Knowledge of the restrictions and regulations for the cutting, burning or destroying of trees
    • Ability to conduct thorough investigations, secure and preserve evidence
    • Ability to lift heavy objects
    • Ability to undertake field work in varying terrain and weather conditions
    • Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
    • Experience operating hand and power tools such as drills, saws, and specialized equipment
    • Dedication to safety measures and best practices
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
    • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
    • Audiometric Testing completed within 90 days of starting position

    Assets:

    • Current Operator's and Exterminator's License for Weed Inspector duties
    • Certified chainsaw operator
