About Us
We are Yatai.

A modern Japanese street food shop featuring burgers made with our famous ramen noodle buns and other dishes made using traditional Japanese methods influenced by global cuisines.


Yatai was created to bring good Asian style food to the masses and to help encourage people toward a healthier lifestyle through delicious food cooked fresh.

Our menu is geared to the downtown crowd; a mix of office workers, tourists and local residents.

We are located in the Urban Eatery at the Toronto Eaton Centre.


About You
You are a ninja in the kitchen that wants to work. Your previous kitchen experience allows you to execute your job quickly and efficiently.

You must be a self-starter that can work independently and as part of a team. Being punctual and adhering to your assigned schedule is very important.

You must be outgoing and truly understand the meaning of great customer service. We want our staff to enjoy what they do and make sure the customers can see that.

You should be hard working and enjoy getting the job done. We are looking for a person with a can-do attitude that enjoys working independently and as a team.

Note:
you must be legally eligible to live and work in Canada.

Your main duties will be to cook food to order.

A big part of being able to execute at our lightning fast speeds is getting your station stocked and ready to rock and roll.


You will be required to cook a multitude of dishes on the wok, deep fryer and/or other equipment including noodle and rice stir fry dishes, as well as fried rice.

In addition, you would be responsible for prep and the setup and take downs of your station, restocking all of the ingredients, and other kitchen duties as assigned to you, including washing up, cleaning down, rotating stock and more.


You should be in the habit of stocking sufficient levels of food all all stations to assure a smooth service during rush periods.

During slower periods, you will be required to restock, prep and portion food products according to our cooking standards and portion sizes.


You will be required to maintain a clean and sanitary working environment including all tables, counters, shelves, equipment, utensils, etc.


The presentation of our food is equally as important as the taste and you will ne required to follow our proper plate presentation and garnish for all dishes.


Skills and Qualifications
You must have a minimum of 2 years' experience working the line in a commercial kitchen. A post-secondary education in an accredited cooking school would be advantageous.

You must possess a good command of the English language with strong oral and written skills.

You must be clean (we're an open kitchen) and have the ability to multi-task (we're high volume).


You must be in good physical condition as you will have to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 40 pounds.

As well, you will be required to work in a standing position for long periods of time.

Valid food handler's certificate is required.


Work Schedule

This is a full-time job and you will be required to work 5 to 6 evenings per week for a total of 35-40 hours.

During each shift, you will have a 30-minute unpaid break and will be entitled to a staff meal.


Our restaurant is open 7 days a week, 364 days a year so you may be required to work different days including weekends and holidays.


Compensation

We offer a competitive salary with health benefits that are available on a cost-shared basis after 90 days of employment.

In addition, we pay out your 4% vacation pay on each pay cheque and allow a free staff meal during your shift.
