    Job Description:

    Reporting to the Director, Corporate Planning, the Manager, Internal Control and Financial Analysis acts as the College's senior leader in identifying requirements for enhanced internal controls and the ongoing development, implementation and execution of an internal control policy and framework that supports the translation of the College strategic goals into defined operational plans, with a focus on performance metrics, monitoring and reporting. This leader contributes to a culture of continuous business improvement, entrepreneurialism and lean operating principles through the implementation of standard operating procedures and promoting best practice in process management to ensure value and efficiency in the delivery of programs and services.

    The Manager plays a strategic role by leading the analysis and reporting of the College's portfolio of revenue generating academic and commercial activities. This leader manages the process that enables the Treasurer, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and the College Budget Committee (CBC) to discretely view and assess the revenues and expenses of all revenue generating activities. This includes conducting research and providing detailed financial analysis support and modelling. Leading this initiative includes facilitating communications and consultations with the College leadership and stakeholders with regular reporting, recommendations and proposals presented to the Executive Team of the College.

    The Manager, Internal Control and Financial Analysis works with the Algonquin College Executive Team and their cross functional teams to ensure the appropriate internal controls are developed, maintained, communicated and executed in order to achieve positive control environment assurance in alignment with the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) Internal Control Framework, and works collaboratively with the Department of Finance & Administrative Services to establish and communicate the framework for internal control and for the ongoing assessment, monitoring and development of controls.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum four (4) year Honours Degree/Diploma in Commerce or Business Administration;
  • A financial accounting designation (CPA);
  • A Masters degree in business or a relevant field of study would be an asset;
  • Education and Certification in Internal Audit or Fraud Examination would be an asset;
  • At least nine (9) year experience of business planning experience with a strong record of delivering quality outcomes within the defined scope, time and cost parameters;
  • Experience in establishing internal controls in a medium or large size organization;
  • Experience leading teams and managing deliverables in a matrixed reporting environment;
  • Experience working with and presenting to upper management and senior executives.
