  • Join the Housing Finance Policy Team, where we accelerate housing affordability through evidence-based policy and research. The Housing Finance team develops policies relating to housing finance, with an eye on affordability, supply, economic stability, climate and social inclusiveness. In the Specialist role you will be asked to develop and maintain relationships, access and analyze data and information relating to housing finance and housing markets, and use that data and information to make recommendations to government.

    What You'll Do:

  • Provide thoughtful leadership in the areas of housing finance (including mortgage lending, mortgage insurance and securitization, and broader market stability) and its impact on housing markets.
  • Provide expert and comprehensive advice, guidance and recommendations on the development of innovative policies and programs.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research and analysis to identify and assess international and domestic housing finance policies and trends.
  • Lead or contribute to the development of presentations and briefing materials for senior management, including briefing notes as well as budget proposals and Treasury Board submissions.
  • Engage with and obtain input from internal and external groups on issues and opportunities related to housing finance policies and programs.
  • Represent CMHC and, where required, organize or lead meetings, committees, task force / working groups and consultative bodies to communicate corporate priorities and policy positions and influence outcomes.
  • What You Should Have

  • A postgraduate degree in a quantitative field such as Economics with a demonstrated interest or experience in public policy/research/advocacy.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in quantitative analysis and policy advice and development (equivalent education/work experience may be considered).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the housing finance / housing system.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills with an ability to develop policy options and assess housing finance systems and the expected outcomes of various policies.
  • The ability to collect and synthesize significant amounts of data and information and use it to identify strategic opportunities.
  • Experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders and working with them to influence policy outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • It would be great if you also had:

  • Deep understanding of the Canadian housing system and challenges relating to housing finance in Canada
  • Deep understand of the Multi-Unit lending space
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one area of mortgage finance: mortgage securitization, market stability, mortgage loan insurance, homeowner or multi-unit lending,
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in Indigenous Housing Finance
