Responsibilities:


  • Provide timely, strategic policy advice, research, analysis and briefings to senior staff, Leader, and Caucus to advance NDP caucus' parliamentary goals
  • Coordinate with caucus critics in assigned policy fields to ensure that appropriate monitoring, collaboration, and strategic analysis of government initiatives, as well as in the private and civil society sectors
  • Support the work of MPs at Committee, including by advancing key policy commitments at Committees and monitoring highprofile meetings
  • Proactively manage key stakeholder contacts and monitor media for developments in specific areas assigned by their supervisor
  • Liaise and collaborate with the House Leader's and Whip's offices on House and committee strategy, implementation, and analysis, including support for daily Question Period
  • Monitor other parties, government legislation, ministerial decisions, and government nominations to advance the NDP caucus' parliamentary goals
  • Undertake independent political research including through the regular use of Access to Information requests and Questions on the Order Paper
  • Assist with the preparation of communication products, such as speaking notes, press releases, and reality checks
  • Evening and weekend work will be necessary at times
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in Political Science or related field, or equivalent experience providing policy support for a political party or elected representative, government, trade union, or NGO
  • Proven ability to work in a fastpaced environment while maintaining sound political judgement, team cohesion and discretion
  • Knowledge of how House of Commons Standing Committee works and their rules
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple internal and external stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes on sensitive, quickly evolving issues
  • Experience in analytical political research, investigative reporting, or archival research
  • Knowledge and experience working with Access to Information legislation, Questions on the Order Paper, and other Parliamentary research tools
  • Sophisticated understanding of Canadian politics, the legislative process, and familiarity with Canadian experts and institutional nongovernmental networks
  • Proven ability to synthesize complex information and provide timely, strategic, and mediaoriented advice and analysis
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Initiative and ability to work well under pressure, both in a team and independently, while meeting strict deadlines
  • Sound knowledge of the Federal NDP, its policies and structures
  • Economic or quantitative analysis skills will be considered an asset
  • Bilingualism required

Annual salary:

$64,000
