The Learning Design Consultant is an integral member of the Learning Design unit, and reports to the Associate Dean, Learning Innovation.

The primary role of the Learning Design Consultant is to actively support identified stakeholders, primarily faculty, Deans and Program Chairs, in achieving their learning design and curriculum development objectives.

In this way, the Learning Design unit supports the achievement of access, quality & sustainability goals articulated in the Bow Valley College Institutional Plan.

Responsibilities and duties associated with the Learning Design Consultant's role include;

**Using a customer service approach;

  • 70%** Promotes and supports teaching excellence and innovation
  • Promotes and supports the use of educational technology in curriculum development and teaching and learning
  • Reviews, revises, designs and/or develops curricula
  • Supports the identified professional development needs of college staff such as
(a) facilitating workshops

(b) facilitating /leading meetings

(c) consulting with stakeholders

  • Develops and promotes resources in curriculum development, educational technology and instructional skills.
  • Assists in the development of learning design plans (i.e. marketing, operational, strategic) and budgets
  • Supports or leads research initiatives
  • Gives and receives constructive feedback
  • Fosters positive relationships with and among stakeholders
  • Applies best practices in presentations and in design of resources
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the Learning Design Unit to plan and participate in learning design development initiatives, workshops, and other events 10%
  • Works collaboratively with deans, program chairs and faculty in departmentwide and collegewide projects and initiatives 10%
  • Keeps current with trends and research in the field 10%

Minimum Qualifications:


  • 46 years of related experience
  • Master's Degree
  • Preference to experience in a postsecondary institution
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence in online and/or facetoface learning environments
  • Previous consulting experience preferred
  • Use of learning technologies including a learning management system and webconferencing
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
