The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking an Enterprise Risk Management co-op student/intern for the Summer 2023 (May to August with the possibility for extension) work term to provide support across a range of risk areas including strategic and operational risk management, and crisis management.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team consists of a Director, Senior Manager, and Manager. The ERM team is responsible for overseeing and providing leadership on all non-investment risk related activities at BCI. Together they manage the Fraud Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management, crisis management, and insurance programs at BCI.

You will also work with many critical stakeholders across the organization that are involved in managing and overseeing BCI's key risks.


WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING


This work term will provide you the opportunity to learn from and assist the ERM Team on a range of initiatives.


During this work term you will:

  • Work under the supervision of the Director and Senior Manager to assist with various projects and initiatives as they relate to non-investment risk management
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of the risk events tracking process, environmental scanning processes, and risk monitoring processes.
  • Enhance ERMs SharePoint capabilities including recognizing and implementing operational efficiencies using SharePoint.
  • Assisting in the secretariate function supporting two senior-level risk management committees
  • Ad-hoc projects and tasks as assigned by the team


REQUIRED SKILLS- Demonstrates critical thinking skills combined with analytical and problem-solving abilities- Demonstrates an ability to gather and process information and present in a concise manner through Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Excel- Demonstrates SharePoint capabilities- Exhibits professionalism, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to engage, build credibility and maintain relationships with individuals at all organizational levels- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing- Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy, excellent product quality and attention to detail- Operates as a team player, but also comfortable working independently to complete work assignments- Enjoys using creative approaches to develop innovative, efficient solutions- Demonstrates drive to continue learning, excel and grow in a dynamic environment- Highly organized, proactive, results-oriented, and resourceful- Has a passion for learning in a diverse and ever-changing environment and a drive to increase knowledge of risk management and business resiliency.

- Knowledge of risk management is desirable- Knowledge of corporate insurance is desirable

THE DETAILS- Work term: Summer 2023 (May to August) with the possibility of extension- Department: Enterprise Risk Management-

Office Location: 750 Pandora Avenue, Victoria, BC- Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island- Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location- All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office.

We are piloting a hybrid program whereby employees may work from home up to two days per week. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
