Job Description:


WHAT'S THE JOB?

Join our NRB Modular Solutions team, where our people are driven by a desire to innovate, do social good, and move construction forward.


As the
Chief Estimator, reporting to the Divisional Vice Presidents, you will be responsible for the accurate, timely preparation of full-cost estimates for projects including materials, labor, and sub trades.

You will be tasked with preparing and maintaining a list of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors, and establishing unit costs, labor rates, productivity factors and location impacts.

You will supervise, mentor, assist, and assign tasks to the estimating team across Canada.


Your work will include:


  • Assists management teams in selection of bid opportunities and identifying bid strategies.
  • Manages and administers project estimating functions including work assignments, sequencing of priorities, determination of staff resourcing and or equipment requirements, performance evaluations and training.
  • Implements, maintains and continually improves the estimating process including standardizations, where appropriate.
  • Evaluates, understands and recommends allowances for indirect costs, design unknowns, escalation, risk, contingency and HSE factors.
  • Establishes unit costs, productivity factors and location impacts.
  • Reviews final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation.
  • Provides input to Design department in the development of the drawings, specifications and alternative construction methods.
  • Completes postbid analyses. Tracks bidding success and percentages and analyses fiscal period bid performance.
  • Collectively maintains estimating historical benchmarking database.
  • Reviews proposal specifications and drawings to validate scope of work and required contents of estimates.
  • Analyzes tender packages to determine time, cost, materials, labour resources required to complete the proposed works.
  • Generates required progress reporting providing updates on progress, projects, and current and/or outstanding issues.
  • Builds and maintains excellent relationships with Project and Construction Managers, external vendors and clients.

Qualifications:


WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • A diploma or degree or equivalent from an accredited University or college in Engineering is an asset.
  • A trade certification or technical training/related experience is considered an asset.
  • Must have 10 years' experience in construction estimating.
  • At least 5 years' experience leading a team.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding mechanical, electrical, structural, civil plans, specifications and tender documents.
  • Knowledge and proficient in the use of estimating software.
  • Proven management and leadership experience.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret bid documents, building specifications and blueprints.
  • Experienced with costestimating practices and software to prepare quotes and bids.
