University Health Network - Chair in Family and Community Medicine Research in Primary Care
UHN in partnership with the Department of Family and Community Medicine, University of Toronto is pleased to announce a search for a founding Chair in Primary Care Research.
The successful individual will have:
- An MD, PhD or equivalent higher degree with at least 5years of academic experience
- A highly regarded program of research aligned with facilitating access to healthcare by marginalized communities. Interest in primary care, integrated care delivery, and the use of digital technology in facilitating healthcare access.
- Experience in mentorship of trainees and teaching
- Experience working collaboratively with clinicians on research projects and research implementation
- Highly developed communication and collaboration skills
Located in downtown Toronto, University Health Network has four clinical sites - Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, as well as its own integrated Health Sciences School - the Michener Institute of Education at UHN and seven Research Institutes.
UHN has extensive primary and community care services and provides secondary through quaternary care for Toronto, southern Ontario and beyond.
University Health Network hosts annually approximately 1,183,968 ambulatory visits, and cares for over 42,260 inpatients in more than 1250 beds.
UHN Research is comprised of seven Research Institutes - McEwen Stem Cell Institute, Techna Institute, Toronto General Hospital Research Institute, Krembil Research Institute, Research Institute for Health Care Education, KITE, and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre working together to make discoveries, create technologies and gain valuable health insights.
Within the seven Institutes, there are 1,020 Researchers and a staff of trainees, Institute staff, Research support staff that total over 2500.
The Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto is one of the largest and most impactful family medicine departments in the world.
Our research program has a strong emphasis on applied research and scholarship focused on improving health and health care in Canada and globally.
DFCM is also the home of the University of Toronto Practice-Based Research Network (UTOPIAN), a network of over 1,900 family physicians and their patients, that brings together researchers, quality improvement experts, primary care clinicians and interprofessional practices to produce internationally relevant primary care research.
DFCM is also the home of the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre on Family Medicine and Primary Care.Responsibilities
Research
- Generate and lead a successful program of research in primary care that contributes to facilitation of access to healthcare by marginalized communities.
- Work closely with the University of Toronto Department of Family and Community Medicine research program and other leading University of Toronto academic programs to advance integrated care delivery with a focus on digital solutions
- Collaborate with relevant UHN research institutes
- Collaborate with local, national, and international colleagues and partners
- Teach/supervisor/mentor/advise faculty colleagues, graduate students, and other relevant learners
- Support evidence informed decisionmaking and practices
- Support implementation of research through participation on committees, working groups, task forces, etc.
- Represent UHN and the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at national and international levels
- Facilitate connections and relationships with integrated care research experts in Canada and internationally
Appointment
The successful applicant will be appointed for a five (5) year term, with the potential for renewal upon review.
