The Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth (CBFY) is a charitable not for profit youth focused family centered hub that gives power of voice to immigrant and refugee children, youth, and families.

CBFY is a core leader within the youth domain in the Calgary settlement and integration sector.

CBFY works in collaboration with the two public school boards in Calgary, Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Catholic School District to ensure that youth and their families are equitably engaged to thrive.

Five factors are critical to CBFY's future success. These are 1) quality and sustainability of programming, 2) accessibility to families and individuals, and presence in the community, 3) engaged employees and volunteers, 4) accurate and credibly measured outcomes and 5) impact and expanded capacity to meet the needs of our clients. About the Position:


The Intake Worker-Connect Team collaborates with the Connect Team, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE), and the Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) Partners.

The SWIS Worker plays a pivotal role as the first point of contact for youth and families entering the public school system and providing information to services offered by schools and community agencies.


Duties and Responsibilities

Welcome/Reception Centers: Operate from the CBE and CCSD Welcome/Reception Centers to provide a warm welcome and initial assistance to immigrant youth and families.

First Point of Contact: Act as the first point of contact for youth and families entering the public-school systems, offering effective communication in their home language as needed.

Introduction to Calgary's School System: Provide an informative introduction to the school system in Calgary through presentations and materials.

Cultural and Academic Adjustment: Introduce immigrant families to CBFY supports and services, facilitating cultural and academic adjustments, explaining differences in expectations, and assisting with communication with schools.

Information Dissemination: Distribute current information portfolios and contact details to newcomers.

Registration Process: Initiate the registration process and accurately enter information into the OCMS database.

    ridge Link Registration: Schedule and coordinate Bridge Link registration intake appointments and connect newcomers with settlement resources.

Advocacy and Support: Offer client insights and support as appropriate, ensuring essential and immediate connections to community resources for a successful education resettlement plan.

Facilitate Communication: Act as a liaison between the NNESST Team, families, and school support when necessary.

Educational Materials: Develop educational materials to meet the unique needs of clients and share them with colleagues to enhance knowledge and skills.

Technology Distribution: Distribute tech equipment as required, keeping track of borrowings and gifts.

Winter Clothing and Supplies: Provide winter clothing and supplies as needed.

Introduction to NNESST Team: Introduce students to the NNESST Team serving their designated school.

Professional Conduct: Maintain ethical and professional communication and conduct at all times.

Collaboration: Collaborate closely with school board staff, Bridge Link, and NEST team staff.

Workplace Contribution: Contribute to a healthy work environment through open communication, collaboration, and shared experiences.

Service Enhancement: Participate in workplace planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of Welcome/Reception Center services.

Client Workshops: Collaborate to prepare and present additional client workshops as required.

Time Management: Effectively manage time, ensuring punctuality and regular attendance.

Documentation: Appropriately document client data and service delivery information.

Committee Participation: Participate in committees and task groups supporting agency-wide projects or engagements.

External Representation: Represent CBFY in external meetings and collaborative engagements.

Community Engagement: Promote CBFY programs and services, raising awareness in the community regarding challenges faced by newcomer youth and their families, as well as their valuable contributions to society.
