Project Overview
The safety professional plans, implements, monitors, teaches and reports on all aspects of OHS management for F&M Installations LTD.

The OHS professional works directly with members of the senior management team, project managers, supervisors, clients and workers to ensure FMI meets its regulatory obligations and objectives aimed first and foremost at keeping workers safe and healthy.

Safety professional will also provides support to create and implement systems that encourage environmental sustainability on the project sites.


_Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:_

Health and Safety Management Programs:


  • Provide expertise, guidance, mentoring, development and advisory services to the sites within FMI in all disciplines associated with occupational health and safety management.
  • Assist site personnels in implementing occupational health and safety programs.
  • Oversee the company's emergency response program to ensure effective emergency measures are in place.

Health and Safety Management Strategy:


  • Function as a Subject Matter Expert in providing advice and problemsolving to site construction superintendent, project manager, supervisors and workers in solving issues and concerns related to the Occupational Health & Safety Regulation (OHSR).
  • Monitor and audit companywide health and safety practices and procedures in accordance with legislation and management system standards. This includes identification of improvement opportunities and providing coaching in these areas.
  • Monitor legislative developments and inform the leadership of the implications of existing, new and evolving legislative initiatives in active jurisdictions and the associated liabilities.
  • Organize, schedule and participate in a regular system of audits for conformance with corporate policies and procedures, legislative requirements and industry accepted best practice. Report on audit findings, monitor progress to complete action plans, and provide assistance as required.
  • Collect and evaluate information and report to the concerned management and the Joint Health and Safety Management Committee. Identify and recommend areas for improvement in systems and procedures both corporately and at sites.
  • Identify and communicate trends which result in improvements in knowledge and reduction of injury, and evaluate overall company performance against industry peers.

Communication / Health and Safety Culture:

  • Communicate the vision and the importance of health and safety practices and policies, and assume an active and visible leadership role in on-going initiatives.
  • Promote a health and safety culture through regular visits to operations, organizing conferences and information exchange which provides for continuous improvement and reduced incident rates across the organization.
  • Demonstrate industry leadership in strategy development and execution by identifying best practices across the industry and integrate into FMI's learning culture.
  • Interface as required with stakeholders on occupational health and safety matters.

Documentation:


  • Guides OHS corporate policy based on regulatory and client requirements.
  • Produce and deliver regular occupational health and safety reports on the operational performance of FMI sites.
  • Complete safety reports for client and FMI corporate review.
  • Participate with operations to conduct investigations and report on serious incidents.

Training and New Employee Orientations:


  • Manages all employee safety training records.
  • Plans and coordinates the delivery of instruction in response to regulatory and client requirements.
  • Mentors project managers, supervisors and foremen on the essential role they play as health & safety leaders.
  • Conducts inductions for new workers and subcontractors and maintains records of these inductions.
  • Develops and delivers short coaching sessions and longer formal courses on a variety of safety, health, environment and leadership topics.
  • Confirms that employee learning has taken place in all teaching interventions.

Preparation and Planning

  • Conducts formal risk assessments prior to project mobilization and throughout the project life cycle.
  • Ensures project subcontractor safe work plans, job hazard assessments and procedures meet Company standards.
  • Demonstrates involvement in project scheduling to preplan and coordinate all aspects related to safety management the project.
  • Provides recommendations in the development of shortand longterm strategies in the OHS&E process.

Injury Management

  • Coordinates the Injury Management Team's efforts in facilitating injured worker returntowork programs.
  • Ensures that required documentation including Form 7s, SAW/RTW Plans are completed and followed up by site management and the injury management coordinator.
