SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Reporting to the Foreperson I, repairs, maintains and inspects various types of City Vehicles and Equipment.
GENERAL DUTIES
Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair City vehicles and equipment.

Inspect and service vehicles and equipment on a scheduled basis, this includes Periodic mandatory commercial vehicle inspections and regular preventative maintenance inspections.

Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair the City's vehicles and equipment using OEM software that would include but not limited to Cummins Insite, Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link, Allison DOC, Meritor WABCO Toolbox, Bendix ACOM and Ford IDS.


Operate shop and power tools such as:

hydraulic jacks, hoists, cranes, computerized diagnostic equipment, oxy-acetylene torches, variety of hand tools (air and electric) and industrial tools (drill press, saws, presses), to name a few.

Inspect vehicles and equipment that have been turned in at the end of their cycle, record deficiencies and recommend repair or replacement.

Dismantle, adjust, repair and reassemble engines, transmissions, clutches, rear ends, differentials, drive-shafts, axles, and related parts.
Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair starting, electrical and charging systems.
Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair steering, suspension and brake assemblies.
Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair fuel, exhaust and cooling systems.
Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair turf equipment such as outfront rotary mowers and tractors.
Weld with gas and electric welding equipment.
Diagnose troubleshoot and repair problems with vehicles and equipment in adverse weather conditions.
Attach and detach accessory pieces of equipment such as snowplows and agricultural type equipment.

Complete computerized work orders, time cards and submit parts requisitions through our Fleet Management System.- Work in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.

Perform other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have and maintain a valid Ontario Truck and Coach Technician's Licence (310T).
  • Experience with diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing Cummins, Detroit Diesel and Ford diesel exhaust after treatment systems.
  • An indepth knowledge of Cummins Insite, Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link, Allison DOC, Meritor WABCO Toolbox, Bendix ACOM and Ford IDS software packages.
  • Previous experience in maintaining and repairing trucks in a fleet environment.
  • Capable, knowledgeable and current in all aspects (safe practices measuring, welding, shop tools/equipment, major components, etc.) of Trade Qualification.
  • Must be capable of and willing to retain technical competency on City vehicles and equipment.
  • Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Must be physically capable of using heavy tools and equipment, working outdoors in adverse weather conditions and working evening, night and weekend shifts.
  • Must supply and maintain the required set of personal hand tools required for the job.
  • Natural gas/propane certification ICEP and ICENG, refrigeration/air conditioning ozone depletion certificate would be an asset.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Class "G" Ontario Driver's Licence.

DRIVER'S LICENCE AND PROOF THEREOF IS REQUIRED AFTER HIRE.
