Scope of work - Heavy Equipment Technician
Heavy Equipment Technicians repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain a variety of equipment from pickup trucks to large machinery used in construction, transportation, forestry, mining, oil and gas, material handling, landscaping, land clearing, farming, and similar activities.
Trailer Technicians are required to follow the same general job descriptions as HET's but will vary in the equipment they work on.
Due to the nature of the industry trailer technicians may sometimes be required to help with equipment, not within the general scope of their license.
Technicians are required to have a good general knowledge of vehicle systems and components and should be able to troubleshoot and repair them as required.
The supervisors for technicians are:
- Foreman
- Service Managers
- General Manager
- Directors
Technicians work closely with service writers and parts people to ensure all jobs are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Check vehicles for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment and methods to determine the extent of repair required.
- Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools.
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications.
- Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
- Service attachments and working tools (i.e. Blades, plows, winches, and side booms).
- Perform repair work on heavy trucks, RV's and buses, trailers, auxiliary equipment, and pickup trucks.
- Maintain a clean work environment, ensuring floors, benches, tools, and other areas of the workspace or equipment are tidy and safe.
- Work with and train apprentices.
- Perform CVIP inspections on a variety of equipment.
- Communicate job performance and tasks to the service writer either by written stories or verbally communicated stories, as required by the service writer.
- Have a good general knowledge of hand and power tools and their related safety.
- Maintain proper records or journals where required for repairs and time management.
- Maintain a clean and tidy work environment
Job Types:
Full-time, Permanent
Salary:
$22.50-$40.00 per hour
