Marshall Canada requires a Commercial Manager in Ottawa, ON to join our team.

Reporting to the Head of Commercial, Canada, this position is responsible to provide commercial expertise on a wide variety of different project and issues, supporting all aspects of the business from capturing new business to managing existing programs.


Your responsibilities in this role:

  • Managing contracts from award throughout the delivery, by developing thorough understanding of rights and obligations, and ensuring effective contractual performance, risk assessment and mitigation, change management and dispute resolution.
  • Acting as the customer point of contact for contractual & commercial matters and developing close working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Understanding and communicating customer terms and conditions and important contract matters to the business and project team, including working closely with Supply Chain colleagues to ensure appropriate flow down and alignment between customer and supplier terms.
  • Taking the lead in shaping, reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and agreeing specific terms and conditions for sales and collaboration agreements and managing all commercial/contractual aspects relating to specific bids, proposals and other matters such as Non-Disclosure Agreements, Teaming Agreements, Licensing, Collaboration Agreements, etc.
  • Identifying commercial risks and providing advice, assistance, and guidance on a wide range of commercial matters to the business and bid team including Project Managers, Business Development Managers, Engineers, Supply Chain & functional team members.
  • Supporting the bid approval process in accordance with Marshall Canada policies and procedures, including assisting in the development of capture strategies to win new business and collation of commercial data as required for bids and projects (management briefings, reporting and information).
  • Assessing, planning, and managing intellectual property rights.
  • Maintaining a solid understanding of Canadian Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) policy, managing the Canadian offsets portfolio by assisting with identifying offset opportunities and capturing the required evidence to have those transactions accepted by Canada, and overseeing reporting to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED).
  • Contribute to the development of and actively participate in the implementation of commercial policy, procedure, and practice, as well as be involved in the continuous improvement activities for the commercial function, as required.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Head of Commercial
  • Canada.
  • A university Degree or College Diploma in a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in a contractual or commercial role, preferably within a defence or aerospace environment.
  • Demonstrable record of administrating complex projects and agreements throughout the contract life management cycle. This would include working closely with Project Managers and other functional stakeholders to control all aspects of contractual obligations and scope change during program delivery.
  • Demonstrable extensive knowledge of Defence Procurement, Canadian Commercial Law including intellectual property management, offset strategies, and Industrial and Technological Benefits.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with export compliance and trade control regimes, including the Controlled Goods Program, International Traffic in Arms Regulations, and the United States Munitions List.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of business finance principles including foreign exchange.
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills, with the ability to negotiate and influence.
  • Impartiality, integrity, diplomacy, and selfreliance are key attributes.

  • Customer focused with the ability to see issues from the perspective of others.
  • Available for occasional travel both domestically and internationally.


Must be eligible to meet the requirements of export control regulations, including the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and Canadian government security requirements.
