We are a fast-growing national barndominium design and kit provider seeking a licensed Structural Engineer (PE) to design and stamp structural drawings for:
All-steel frame barndominiums (red iron / PEMB style)
Hybrid steel + wood frame barndominiums
This is an ongoing opportunity for the right engineer. We ship kit packages across the country and need accurate, build-ready structural documents that contractors can confidently execute.
Scope of Work
For each project, we will provide:
Floor plans
Elevations
Basic architectural set
Our internal framing guidelines and design standards
Project location and governing design criteria (when applicable)
We are seeking an engineer who can provide:
Structural Design & Calculations
Structural analysis based on applicable codes
Wind, snow, seismic, and live load considerations
Foundation load requirements
Review and adaptation to local jurisdiction requirements
Stamped Structural Drawings (PE Seal Required)
Fully engineered structural plan set
Stamped for permit (state-specific licensing required depending on project location)
Framing plans and structural details
Steel Framing & Erection Drawings
Column layout
Rafter and beam specifications
Connection details
Bracing details
Anchorage and base plate details
Materials List / Takeoff for Kit Ordering
Structural steel member list
Fasteners and connection hardware
Steel gauges and specs
Anchor bolts
Any specialty structural components required
The goal is to produce a contractor-ready structural package that allows us to:
Submit for permit
Order steel kits
Ship materials nationwide
Support field erection crews
Project Type
Typical projects:
1,500 – 4,500 sq ft residential barndominiums
16'–24' eave heights
Clear span steel frames
Attached garages / shops
Porch and overhang systems
Hybrid systems with wood interior framing tied into steel primary structure
Requirements
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States
Ability to obtain licensure in multiple states (or already multi-state licensed preferred)
Experience with:
Pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMB)
Red iron steel framing
Residential structural engineering
Familiarity with IBC and IRC requirements
Ability to design for varying wind and snow loads nationwide
Strong communication and responsiveness
Preferred Experience
Experience engineering barndominiums or similar hybrid steel structures
Understanding of kit-based building systems
Experience providing materials lists for fabrication
Familiarity with foundation design coordination
Volume & Timeline
We anticipate:
2–5 projects per month initially
Long-term partnership opportunity
Turnaround goal: 2–3 weeks per project (depending on complexity)
Contract duration of 1 to 3 months. with 30 hours per week.
