Are you looking for a role that will challenge you? The Regulatory Specialist supports the Manager, Environmental Remediation Management (ERM) Licensing Support with the coordination of regulatory activities at CNL with particular emphasis on the Historic Waste Program Management Office (HWPMO).

Do you have experience in the management of regulatory correspondence and tracking of regulatory actions, preparing for and participating in Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) inspections, unplanned event reporting to regulatory agencies, and preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reports? What will you be doing


Preparing and reviewing licensing correspondence; Assisting the Manager, Programs & Compliance with the oversight of all licensed activities conducted through the HWP MO and acting as a designate as required.

Participating as licensing representative in various meetings. Support to other ERM activities and sites.
Assisting in preparations for CNSC Commission hearings and meetings.

Reviewing and providing comments on CNSC issued regulatory documents in conjunction with Industry peers (OPG, Bruce Power, NB Power, COG) and submitting comments to CNSC staff.

Producing and reviewing correspondence, preliminary verbal and full unplanned event reports to the CNSC.

Providing input to strategic decisions and support strategic initiatives by reviewing and summarizing CNL, CNSC and other requirements and proposing optimal solutions to minimize licensing risk, while meeting project/program constraints.

Drafting and reviewing presentations for the CNSC.
Drafting and reviewing licensing procedures and processes as required.
Drafting and reviewing responses to CNSC questions.
Preparing licensing protocols, progress reports and other licensing submissions as required.
Managing routine communications with other CNL licensing areas.
Maintaining a schedule of all licensing activities for HWP MO and other ERM activities or sites as requested.

Assisting in the preparation of the annual report by coordinating the production of CNL-CRL's Annual Compliance Monitoring Reports (ACMR) and contributing as an author.

Travelling to on-site presences at PHAI and other CNL sites on a frequent basis.
Tracking and managing regulatory commitments for PHAI and other ERM sites and activities as requested.
Producing and revising regulatory affairs process documentation and coordinating the production of this documentation as requested.
Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What We Are Looking For

Education
University graduate with Honours in Engineering or Science or equivalent from a university of recognized standing is required.
Experience
3-5 years of experience in a highly regulated environment, resulting in sound technical knowledge of interpretation of regulatory requirements. Preference for experience with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to understand and describe technical issues pertaining to regulatory matters.
Must have good organizational skills, be highly motivated, and be a quick learner.
Ability to provide support and guidance on the interpretation of regulatory, compliance and company-wide requirements.
Ability to draft and review various types of correspondence and reports.
Must possess good communication and written skills.
Must be precise and fluent in what they say and write, with an eye for detail.
Ability to contribute to writing technical documents.

Knowledge of NSCA and Regulations, CNL licenses, license conditions handbooks, and ability to work effectively as a team member, and with minimal supervision.

Knowledge of CNL's Management System, Quality Assurance, Health, Safety, Security and Environment programs, as well as other Safety and Control Areas.

Knowledge of other regulatory requirements such as the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, Fisheries Act, various Ontario environmental regulations, and other federal regulatory reporting.

Knowledge of the work undertaken by the Historic Waste Program Management Office and CNL's Environmental Remediation Management Mission
Security Clearance Eligibility Required

Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom.

CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security.

Flexibility to work outside of standard office hours on occasion to meet organizational needs as required.
Occasional travel to various sites.

Working schedule:

Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half hour work week.

This position is part of the CRPEG Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the CRPEG Collective Agreement.

CNL works with employees across our Canadian locations to enable remote work when possible.

This role requires that the majority of time worked be at CNL's Chalk River Laboratory site while also providing opportunities to work remotely, where possible, if desired by the employee.
