About the Role

We are seeking a technically skilled intermediate Process Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in piping design, pipe fabrication support, and packaged mechanical/process systems. Candidates should bring five (5)+ years of hands‑on engineering experience in an industrial or energy‑focused environment, supported by a degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited institution. Registration as a P.Eng in Ontario is required.

This role is ideal for someone who can bridge design and execution—evaluating vendor data, ensuring code compliance, developing accurate drawings and specifications, and supporting fabrication, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting. Experience with steam/utility systems and combustion‑related packages (e.g., boilers, fuel gas skids/trains, BMS/CCS integration) is a strong asset.

What you will be doing in the role of Mechanical Process Engineer, Intermediate

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Engineering Design & Technical Delivery

• Collaborate with Application Engineers on sizing/selection of valves, pressure regulators, flowmeters, and packaged equipment; provide technical approvals for procurement.
• Develop and refine mechanical/process design deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and supporting technical documentation.
• Produce and review piping drawings/models (3D layout, isometrics) and contribute to piping standards/specifications (including piping material specifications where applicable).
• Ensure quality and timely delivery of design deliverables that meet requirements and customer expectations.
• Independently lead small‑scope engineering assignments, including customer communication, scheduling, and budgeting.

Fabrication, Quality, and Shop/Field Support

• Support technicians during fabrication, commissioning, troubleshooting, and site activities; resolve technical issues quickly and practically.
• Review welding documentation (WPS/PQR), NDE requirements, and test packages; support compliance with applicable ASME and project requirements.
• Participate in shop inspections / manufacturing surveillance; collaborate with vendors on corrective actions and technical clarifications.
• Lead internal and external factory acceptance testing (FAT) and develop test protocols; support site acceptance testing (SAT) as required.

Vendor, Subcontractor, and Stakeholder Coordination

• Develop and maintain relationships with equipment suppliers, engineering consultants, and regulatory authorities.
• Evaluate vendor quotations for compliance and provide technical clarifications; support RFQs/RFPs and technical bid evaluations.
• Work cross‑functionally with Project Managers and Leads to define scope and technical requirements; coordinate across disciplines when needed.
• Lead customer interactions independently, providing technical expertise and guidance.

Regulatory & Code Compliance

• Prepare regulatory applications and submittals (e.g., TSSA Boiler & Pressure Vessels, Fuels Safety), including variance negotiations.
• Apply relevant codes/standards to piping and mechanical equipment design (e.g., ASME B31.1/B31.3 and applicable ASME pressure equipment sections where required).

Continuous Improvement

• Contribute to the development and refinement of piping specifications and best practices for fluid services.
• Adhere to Lakeside quality processes and standard operating procedures.

Knowledge and skills required for the role

• Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• P.Eng designation required.
• 5+ years of engineering experience with demonstrated technical proficiency in mechanical/process or packaged systems environments.
• Strong experience with ASME B31.1 and/or ASME B31.3 (design, fabrication support, and compliance).
• Knowledge of welding procedures (WPS/PQR) and understanding of welding, examination (NDE), and testing requirements per ASME/project code.
• Demonstrated ability to manage technical deliverables and timelines independently; strong problem‑solving and technical documentation skills.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and vendor/client interaction skills.

Assets (Highly Relevant to Success in This Role)

• Experience with steam generation / utility systems (e.g., boilers, deaerators, condensate/blowdown systems, fuel gas skids/trains, pump skids, water treatment/chemical dosing packages).
• Familiarity with burner management systems (BMS) and combustion control systems (CCS) integration/commissioning support.
• Experience preparing or interpreting PFDs, P&IDs, heat balances, equipment performance data sheets, and technical submissions.
• Manufacturing/fabrication process knowledge (e.g., machining, heat treatment, coatings/painting) and experience with workshop/shop inspections.
• Experience with 3D design software and plant layout tools (e.g., AutoCAD Plant 3D, PDMS, SolidWorks, Navisworks).
• Experience in proposal support / tendering (technical inputs, take‑offs, bid packages) and change/claims management is considered an asset.
• Experience in CSA Z662 Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems and/or Natural Gas regulating/letdown station design.
• Broader familiarity with relevant standards such as ASME pressure equipment sections, API, NFPA, CSA, OBC, ANSI/ASTM/ASHRAE (as applicable to projects).
