Human Environment Specialist

Based at the Goliath Gold Complex office near Dryden, ON, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Human Environment Specialist to join our Environment team, reporting to the Director of Environmental and Regulatory Affairs or designate.

Treasury Metals Inc. is an exploration and mining development company currently in the process of developing the Goliath Gold Complex.

The Goliath Gold Complex is locate4d proximal to the beautiful Ontario communities of Dryden and Sioux Lookout, both well-appointed with key amenities and services.

The Human Environment Specialist will work alongside our environment and community affairs teams.

In an interdisciplinary environment, the incumbent will study the interactions between human populations and the natural and physical environments in project-specific contexts and support developing and implementing various policies, monitoring and management programs, and stakeholder engagement programs.

The Human Environment Specialist will also work with and support Project managers in environmental assessments and permitting. The Human Environment Specialist will also be a partner in strengthening the social aspect of ESG throughout our Project.
Regulatory Affairs

Keeping abreast of changes to Canadian federal and provincial impact assessment legislation and practices, and stakeholder consultation best practices.

Meet the Government Departments and Agencies, as required, to discuss consultation aspects of permit and regulatory applications.

Collaborate with the development of an Indigenous and stakeholder management and consultation plan, as it relates to the environment, and consultation planning, implementation, tracking, and reporting, and implement the plans.

Lead development and implementation of socio-cultural studies, traditional land use, and Indigenous Knowledge including desktop research, surveys, interviews, etc., as well as support and collaboration with community partners.

Prepare communication messaging and materials, such as fact sheets, plain-language materials, and presentations.
Manage and keep stakeholder management software up to date.
Sustainability
Assessment of project impacts on socio-cultural and socio-economic environment, including Indigenous interests.
Contribute to the preparation of technical reports.
Development of community-based indicators.

Lead the assessment of project impacts on the human environment, including consideration of regional and local economies, community services and infrastructure, land use and recreation, and community well-being and safety.

Conduct baseline socio-economic studies, including desktop research, surveys, interviews, etc.
Provide oversight on the delivery of multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and apply high-quality standards on project deliverables.
Support implementation of project agreements.

Graduate degree in the social sciences or an interdisciplinary field (e.g., Indigenous studies, anthropology, sociology, archaeology, environmental sciences, community studies or urban planning).

Applicants with undergraduate degrees will be considered with appropriate commensurate experience.

At least 5-7 years of relevant experience in conducting and providing intermediate or senior guidance on social and/or economic research and analysis and in environmental permitting and compliance.

Knowledge of the Indigenous cultural, historical, and political context in Canada, Duty to Consult, Treaties and Rights, and Truth and Reconciliation in Ontario.

A knowledge of Treaty 3 Nation-relations is considered an asset.
Familiarity with consultation and/or community engagement tracking software is considered an asset.

Experience collaborating with Indigenous Nations to develop Indigenous Knowledge and land use studies to meet regulatory requirements and on community-based monitoring and other projects.

Expert communication and presentation skills, particularly in presenting technical information in plain language and report writing.
Excellent research, analysis, and technical writing skills.

Background and interest in mining and natural resource projects, and engagement with Indigenous Nations and Peoples and the public.

Fluency with the use of MS Office Suite including Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint.
Class G driver's license and ability to travel for work.
