Job Summary:
Responsible for assisting in the instruction of the Recreation Division Martial Arts Programs which are learn to based programs and conducting a high energy program that meets the program outlines and HIGH FIVE principles.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and Responsibilities - Martial Arts Instructor Lead
- Black belt in Karate or Tae Kwon Do
- Support the objectives and philosophies of the specific martial arts program through quality instruction and excellent public and staff relations.
- Plan, conduct and evaluate the program.
- Accurate completion of administrative duties (i.e. daily attendance; facility checks, equipment inventory).
- Provide participants with instruction and supervision while effectively ensuring the safety of all participants.
- Conduct safety checks of program equipment and facility space.
- Adhere to all program policies and standards as they relate to program content and delivery.
- Effectively provide quality customer service and act as a knowledgeable resource to participants, parents, volunteers and coworkers.
- Effectively and in a timely manner communicate any issues/ information that could impact the quality and safe delivery of the program to the manager on duty or your direct supervisor.
- Perform emergency procedures as required.
- Being able to incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery where appropriate.
- Complete all mandatory online eLearning modules.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities - Martial Arts Instructor Assistant
- Support objectives and goals of all recreational Martial Arts Programs through quality instruction, supervision and excellent customer service
- Present and instruct the group exercise format specific to the outline and objectives
- Being able to incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery where appropriate.
- Prepare skills and drills for belt levels assigned and assist with conducting grading's and tournaments
- Conduct safety inspections for room and equipment. Assist with set up and tear down of equipment if required. Ensure equipment is properly stored at the end of each class
- Complete accident/incident forms as required, participant attendance, assist with grading prep and tournaments as required
- Keep head instructor and program supervisors informed of any safety concerns an customer feedback (verbal or written)
- Responds to customer needs and questions with accurate information and/or guidance to resources being responsible and acting within scope of knowledge and service.
- Perform emergency procedures as required
Skills and Qualifications:
- At least 15 years of age for Martial Arts Instructor Assisstant
- At least 16 years of age for Martial Arts Instructor Lead
- Registered with a recognized martial arts organization and possess a valid Emergency First Aid & CPR B certification (or higher) from a WSIB approved provider.
- HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
- Employment offer is conditional upon receipt of a Level III
- Vulnerable Sector Check from a Police unit that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga.
Martial Arts Instructor Assistant will also have:
- Brown belt in Karate or Tae Kwon Do
- Minimum of one year direct assist teaching experience, strong communication and organizational skills
Martial Arts Instructor Lead will also have:
- Black Belt in Karate or Tae Kwon Do
- Minimum of one year direct assist teaching experience, strong communication and organizational skills
