Queen Margaret's School has an opening for an Education Technology Lead, to start as soon as possible.


Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the Education Technology Lead works in collaboration with the AV Coordinator and the Technology Lead to provide comprehensive information technology solutions for Queen Margaret's School.

The Education Technology Lead will work with staff and stakeholders to oversee the implementation of enterprise IT systems to improve technology for students and staff, focusing on service quality and best-of-class technology integration.

We are seeking a positive thinker who can help refresh and grow our IT strategy, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our IT services, and use their collaborative approach and hands-on style to manage the day-to-day IT operations.

Exceptional interpersonal skills and a proven track record of establishing positive working relationships with stakeholders are essential to this position.

Previous experience in an independent school setting will be considered an asset.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all technological aspects of the School's technology solutions and services as well as evaluate
  • Partner with key stakeholders across the organization to develop solutions for IT needs.
  • In collaboration with the Technology Lead, review and analyze educational requirements and requests for software and hardware to develop solutions for IT needs
  • In collaboration with the AV Coordinator, review and analyze AV requirements and requests for software and hardware to develop solutions for AV needs
  • Working with the Director of Finance and Operations, develop a data and file management protocol for school files and backups
  • Manage mobile and VoIP phone systems, Internet connections, camera systems, wireless networks for all building and locations.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of the IT equipment and assets of the School, including their location, staff assignment, software and hardware versions and utilization, and serial numbers and warranty status
  • Maintain security aspects of the IT infrastructure, including audits, vulnerability tests, compliance data gathering, and other security related tasks as appropriate
  • In collaboration with the Technology Lead and the AV Coordinator, manage the IT help desk, including ticketing systems and adherence to service levels
  • In conjunction with the Director of Finance and Operations, research and recommend best practices and policies for risk management related to IT use by staff and students

Desirable Knowledge,

  • Knowledge of key Windows Server core functions like Active Directory, Group Policy Management, DHCP, DNS, Radius, File Server, Print Services, Certificate Services, Federation Services, IIS, Remote Desktop, and Volume Licensing.
  • Knowledge of hybrid environment configurations pairing Active Directory to Azure Active Directory and Google Workspace
  • Knowledge of enterprise networking including VLAN configuration, firewall policy maintenance, web filters, and more on Fortinet firewalls and Dell network switches.
  • Knowledge of VMWare virtualization and familiarity with venter and ESXI
  • Flexibility to learn or provide knowledge of Asset Management tools.
  • Flexibility to learn or provide knowledge of scripting for Windows Deployment Services via Microsoft Deployment Toolkit

  • Minimum of five years related experience in the Information Technology industry, with experience working in a highly functional team
  • Familiarity with strategic and longterm planning with the ability to evaluate emerging technologies for development of longrange plans
  • Familiarity with goal setting, budget management, and IT infrastructure
  • Experience with analytics or reporting engines, particularly SQL Server Reporting Services
  • Knowledge of and experience with managing Microsoft Office 365, Windows Server, Windows 1afterhourst Office Products, Windows and Mac hardware and software
  • Experience in ensuring reliability and efficiencies from outsourced infrastructure and network operations
  • Motivated, selfstarter, able to work independently.
  • Ability to work with ITSM tools to ensure the accuracy of asset management and user management in multiple systems
  • Ability to reach out to vendors for troubleshooting and procurement
  • Provide and develop reference guides for enduser and admin use, as well as creating and maintaining IT policies used organizationwide
  • Ability to work under time pressure to meet deadlines, balance work priorities, and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and external business units
  • Demonstrated understanding of working in an environment with a variety of constituents (students, parents, vendors, faculty, board of governors, alumni) from many cultural backgrounds
