ew Toronto Food Co. is a fresh fruit and vegetable processor and packer located in Toronto, Ontario.

We are looking for a Quality Assurance Supervisor with working knowledge of the Safe Foods for Canadian Regulations, GFSI scheme (BRC/SQF/FSSC 22000), and experience managing an in-house laboratory.

The primary responsibility of the QA Supervisor is to ensure continuing excellence and compliance with all applicable regulations, foster a culture of excellence and a mindset of continuous quality improvement at New Toronto Food.


Essential duties include coaching and supporting the QA team, verification of processes to ensure systems are in control at the warehouse and production facility.

The Quality Assurance Supervisor will be reporting directly to the Senior Quality Assurance Manager and will assist the manager to identify and evaluate Food Safety and Quality problems, and to initiate, recommend or provide solutions.


Essential Job Functions:


  • Member of the HACCP team, responsible for food safety and quality through the enforcement and promotion of NTF's Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Implement corrective action and coach staff as required, and report any deviations to Sr. QA Manager and/or Production Manager.
  • Management of HACCP/QMS documentation, audit preparation and support in the implementation, development, maintenance and management of the HACCP/QMS system.
  • Assist and serve as backup for the Food Safety Team Leader (Sr. QA Manager) to manager department activities.
  • Verify sanitation and cleaning processes, not limited to premise, equipment, and general housekeeping by production staff and sanitation crew.
  • Monitor production floor activities including verification of CCPs, inprocess documentation, metal detection, chemical concentration (produce wash, sanitizer), etc.
  • Supervise and act as a role model for QA technicians and QC inspectors.
  • Responsible for executing the company's microbiological sampling program (food and environment), including coordinating sample retrieval and analysis using aseptic techniques.
  • Lead product recalls, new product launches, plant trials, and shelf life studies.
  • Participate in external audits (FSSC 22000, client, CFIA, etc) and internal audits.
  • Work in a safe manner and ensure all production staff adhere to safety standards, policies, and procedures, and enforce through counselling, guidance, and corrective action.
  • Provide training for plant personnel as it relates to HACCP, FSSC 22000, GMPs and other customer requirements as required.
  • Perform other functions as directed by Sr QA Manager including, but not limited to:
  • Record verification and CCP verification.
  • Label Approval/Update.
  • QA Hold/Release.
  • Monthly audits.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum 23 years' experience as QA/FS Supervisor or 5 years in QA Tech.
  • HACCP Certification required and SQF certification preferred.
  • Post-Secondary/Bachelors degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Animal Science, Biological Science, or Supply Chain/Operations from a fouryear college required.
  • Certification in food safety (GFSI, internal audit, etc).
  • Must be able to work in cold temperature environment from 2°C for an extended period of time.
  • Strong computer knowledge and ability to work with various programs (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc).
  • Excellent written, verbal and listening skills.
  • Exceptional time management skills and high level of attention to detail.
  • Selfmotivated, strong work ethic.
  • Must be available to work Monday through Friday 9am to 6/7pm, and weekends if needed. Hours will vary depending on operational needs.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
