Detailed Overview:

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families:

Reporting to the Leader, Indigenous Cultural Safety, and working in a collaborative team environment, the Lead, Indigenous Community Engagement works within the Fraser Health Indigenous Health team to enhance and promote partner engagement in primary health care service planning and decision-making within the Chilliwack Primary Care Network (PCN).


The Lead is responsible for designing, implementing and evaluating FHA partner engagement activities to support organization and program strategy within the Primary Care Network.

Acts as a resource to planning teams and organizational leaders in developing engagement strategies to support health systems improvement, planning, policy and strategy development.


The Lead, Indigenous Community Engagement leads work with the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), Indigenous organizations and primary care teams to strengthen local relationships and embed culturally safe care within the PCNs in Chilliwack and Fraser Health Rural.


Responsibilities:


  • Designs, implements and reports on engagement processes with Indigenous community partners.
  • Supports the design and integration of culturally safe primary care services within the Primary Care Network by supporting primary care clinics, physicians and nurse practitioners to embed culturally safe practices through education and supporting care pathways to ensure they include Indigenous cultural supports.
  • Promotes patient and public engagement in planning and decisionmaking through engagement with Indigenous patients, First Nation communities, Metis Chartered community and other Indigenous specific services within the region.
  • Supports family physicians and nurse practitioners to embed culturally safe care into their community practices.
  • Represents the Indigenous Health and PCN department on internal and external working groups.
  • Develops and facilitates educational programs for PCN staff related to Indigenous cultural and traditional wellness.
  • Conducts monitoring and evaluation of community engagement activities.
  • Develops and presents written and oral reports of community engagement processes and recommendations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelors Degree in a health care related field such as community engagement, community development or communications/marketing; supplemented by a minimum of 2-3 years experience in a role specializing in public/partner engagement and consultation; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to design, lead and evaluate a range of community engagement projects.
  • Knowledge of leadingedge public engagement practice including webbased engagement.
  • Knowledge of complex organizational and system dynamics in terms of involving multiple partners; knowledge of community organizations and services; knowledge and understanding of socioeconomic determinants of health.
  • Knowledge of the BC Indigenous political and governance landscape from the federal, provincial and regional context, as well as local and community based political and governance knowledge and awareness.
