Department summary


Reporting to the Team Lead of Learning Space Support (LSS) within the Digital Learning Environments (DLE) portfolio, this position acts as a teaching and learning support analyst for all front line aspects of the digital learning environment.

The LSS team provides tier 1 and 2 support for instructors within the physical learning spaces of the Digital Learning Environment.

This team is responsible for working with instructors to help support technology and technology use within their teaching in the U of A learning spaces that IST supports.

These spaces include classrooms, meeting spaces, and computer labs on campus.


Position summary


The LSS analyst is one of the "faces" of IST, and provides technical support for computers, audio-visual technology, and related classroom and lab software within these spaces.


Duties

  • Provides support and recommendations for instructors on technology and its use within learning spaces across campus
  • Assesses the needs of instructors and provides targeted guidance for the use of technology to meet their pedagogical goals
  • Continually assesses hardware/software and makes recommendations for improvements and efficiencies by reviewing procedures, identifying opportunities and researching effective solutions within the scope of their services
  • Supports the use, setup, deployment and training for synchronous learning tools and web conferencing solutions such as Adobe Connect, Google Meet and Cisco WebEx
  • Provides user support for media hosting services such as Apple iTunes U, YouTube, and Vimeo Supports the setup, troubleshooting and training of lecture capture equipment
  • Supports computer based midterms and final examinations to ensure the smooth functioning of all technology in the room
  • Maintains audio visual equipment within depots and classrooms for the support of instructors and administrators across campus
  • Acts as the escalation point for support requests in learning spaces for calls coming to the IST Support Desk Analysts
  • Performs initial assessment and troubleshooting for issues within the physical learning environment and escalates issues to other teams within IST as appropriate
  • Evaluates and selects professional A/V equipment for purchase which involves understanding the current need in addition to anticipating future requirements
  • Supports instructors with the use of video editing and audio editing tools
  • Provides audiovisual support for major conferences and events
  • Acts in coordination with other IST teams to mitigate and minimize undue disruptions to classes and exams during incidents, service disruptions and other events
  • Provides front line communication and coordination during major technology issues within labs and classrooms
  • Effectively utilize business tools, ticketing systems and processes to deliver their services within the ITIL frameworks
  • Creates and updates documentation and records effort and activities using various ITSM tools Works with consultants, computing companies and University staff in installation and maintenance of A/V IT equipment and infrastructure
  • Provides service and support outside the University's normal business hours
  • Works independently to troubleshoot, mitigate and solve problems
  • Performs other related duties as necessary

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a diploma in the area of media, design, theatre production, radio/television, and/or IT 3+ years experience in the audiovisual or IT industry
  • Intermediate to advanced technical knowled
