Duties and Responsibilities:


Responsible to oversee day-to-day delivery of non-union professional services staff relations operations and to administer the non-union professional services staff relations program and services.

Additionally, this position is responsible for developing and leading university wide staff relations strategies and programs that support and facilitate a culture of valuing individual and team performance and employee engagement.

These programs must be developed with a full alignment with the University's objectives and goals in the areas of equity, diversity, inclusion, indigeneity and accessibility (EDIIA) in an effort to enhance the strategic objectives of the organization.

This position works directly with the Talent Acquisition team and coaches them in the support and implementation of staff relations programs designed to support retention and attraction of staff.


Qualifications:


The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of operational management and leadership concepts practices including program/service delivery models, policy development, planning, budgeting, performance measurement management, and human resources
  • Knowledge of staff relations and human resources program design, delivery, assessment, and evaluation methodologies, processes, and practices
  • Knowledge of employment standards act
  • Knowledge of relevant governing legislation, collective agreements, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, disciplinespecific software, enterprise software, and technology devices
  • Requires diplomacy, tact and a highly developed ability to influence
  • Demonstrated knowledge of coaching frameworks within an organizational and ER setting

Education and Experience:


The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Completion of bachelor's degree in relevant area with CHRL. CHRP with equivalent experience or a combination of education and relevant experience would be considered with certifications in HR, Staff Relations or in EDI, Accessibility and/or Indigeneity
  • Minimum of 7 years of previous HR experience, inclusive of providing advice and guidance to senior leaders on HR, staff relations, employee engagement, EDI, indigeneity or accessibility issues
  • A minimum of 3 years experience with an element of Equity Diversity and Inclusion ideally with experience developing and leading diversity strategies within human resources.
  • Experience coaching leaders around performance management and supporting progressive discipline is critical.
  • Work within a unionized workplace considered an asset
  • Experience in project, policy and/or program development
