Description

The Lathe Machinist is in charge of setting up jobs on the CNC Lathe.

From reading all drawings and paperwork, to looking over the part and machine as it runs through the program cycle, the machinist is responsible for any changes that may be required to reproduce dimensionally and quality compliant components and paperwork.

Tasks:

Responsible for proper communication of changes required (process changes, feeds and speeds where possible)
Responsible for properly saving programs (Part Numbers, Revisions, Operation Numbers)
Responsible for acquiring 'First Offs' on all jobs
Responsible to "fool proof" and ensure quality remains consistent and easily repeatable for machine operators
Is involved with undertaking minor repairs and preventative maintenance on machines
Setup any ancillary automation equipment

Work Environment

Most tasks and responsibilities are performed directly on our shop floor where Safety and PPE is required
Work environment may include loud noises, working near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles
Physical demands may include extended periods of standing or sitting, lifting or moving up to 30 pounds, and manual dexterity

Education, Experience, and Training Requirements:

1year lathe experience
Previous CNC Machining
General Machinist Certificate of Achievement or equivalent experience
Training in general safety awareness and practices (WHMIS or equivalent)

Skills:

Bilingual (French/English) Written and Oral
Able to read and write English, comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions
Operator and apprentice knowledge
Able to use/read calipers, micrometers, and common metrology equipment
Understanding of imperial and metric measurement systems
Understanding of common conversion charts (feeds and speeds, threading, industry standards)
