Do you regularly question the norm and come up with creative solutions to problems? If you've answered yes to any of these questions, we might have the perfect role for you

PGL Environmental Consultants (PGL) is looking to hire an Intermediate Biologist (Project Manager) to join our Vancouver, Langley or Victoria office. This role will be part of our Environmental Planning Group, servicing clients in diverse industries. PGL employees work a 37.5-hour work week, and employees have the flexibility to work from home or office as and when needed.

This role is responsible for scoping, conducting, and coordinating diverse environmental studies, as well as analyzing data and preparing reports for Environmental Impact Assessments and other environmental permitting projects. Under the supervision of senior environmental professionals, this role will work in a team and with our clients, regulators, and stakeholders to plan and coordinate the completion of environmental projects to meet our clients' needs.

Ideally, we are seeking a Registered Professional with diverse technical skills (i.e. urban development, fisheries, aquatic ecosystems, wildlife, vegetation, and/or Species at Risk) and project management and consulting experience (i.e., client service, communications, business development).

    Responsibilities

    • Coordinating and executing environmental planning projects
    • Directing management of multi-disciplinary project teams
    • Project management
    • Including working with clients to establish scope of work and budgets to meet project objectives and regulatory requirements

    • Completing technical fieldwork, depending on area of expertise
    • Conducting business development—building your network and strengthening relationships within the industry to attract and retain clients
    • Providing technical direction and mentoring to junior staff

You will be expected to work both independently and within project groups, undertaking tasks from start to finish with full team support. The role will primarily involve project management, including directing others in the field, managing/liaising with clients, budgeting and invoicing; and implementing technical expertise including preparing permits and reports and providing technical review. There will also be opportunities for fieldwork within your technical area. We are seeking candidates with strong people and teamwork skills.

    Job Requirements

    • 7+ years of consulting and project management experience.
    • Registered Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio.), or other similar professional accreditation (or eligible for professional registration).
    • Consulting skills including project management, client service, verbal and written communication, and business development.
    • Strong technical writing skills.
    • Experience in Environmental Impact Assessment process and methods within a municipal, provincial, and federal context would be an asset (not a requirement).
    • Experience conducting vegetation, wildlife, terrestrial ecology, fisheries, or aquatic ecology studies following standard guidelines and practices.
    • Knowledge of environmental policies and regulations for development in BC, which may include Water Sustainability Act, Riparian Areas Protection Regulation, Species at Risk Act, Fisheries Act, and municipal and regional bylaws.
    • Assessment skills in urban areas (e.g., applying the Riparian Areas Protection Regulation).
    • Critical thinker with a holistic approach to urban development, environmental constraints, and opportunities.
    • Excellent client service skills, with client networking skills an asset.
    • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office suite products.
    • First aid training (ideal but will provide).
    • Valid driver's license.

    • 100% employee-owned organization
    • Employee and Owner Profit Share Program
    • Flexible work arrangements and daily work hours

    • Allowances: cell phone, wellness, office, clothing, and Costco membership
    • Annual training and development budget
