Reporting to the Manager, Airside & Field Maintenance, the Heavy Equipment Technician is accountable for maintaining and repairing all mobile and stationary equipment owned and operated by Edmonton Airports.

This position ensures all reactive and preventative maintenance is completed in a prioritized manner to ensure the continued day to day operations and requirements are met with mínimal impact and completed in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.

Every day will bring new opportunities, focusing on key responsibilities, you will:


  • Provide input to the Manager, Airside & Field Maintenance plans and directions for reactive and preventative maintenance work plans and ensure ongoing appropriate relationships with other positions.
  • Provide daily input and participates in safety tool box talks, monthly safety meetings and Job hazard assessments utilizing SiteDocs.
  • Complete preventative and reactive work orders assigned by both the Mobile Maintenance Lead hand and Manager, Airside & Field Maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems and determines repairs as needed.
  • Control downtime by informing workers of routine preventative maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
  • Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions.
  • Act as a mentor and guide to the Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentices for the successful completion of their program.
  • Adherence to processes and administrative tasks required of Edmonton Airport's maintenance management program (DAXEAM).

Special Requirements:


  • Journeyman (Red Seal) Heavy Equipment Technician certification is required
  • Experience in industry: Airport, Emergency Services, Transportation, Agricultural Equipment, Oil & Gas, Mining, Construction
  • Valid Class 5 vehicle operator's license; air brake endorsement is preferred
  • Experience with predictive and preventative maintenance, and ERP systems (maintenance management programs) is required
  • Experience with generators and related power systems is preferred
  • Possess or can acquire WHMIS (GHS), TDG, Forklift, fall protection, First-Aid, confined space
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with National Fire Protection Association standards
  • Possess or can acquire Alberta Vehicle Inspection Technician License, experience with Alberta's Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program considered an asset
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a RAIC, "D" AVOP, Applicable for both YEG and ZVL certifications
  • Must secure and maintain appropriate airport security clearance and acceptable criminal record check as conditions of employment
