A dynamic role for a skilled digital analyst with excellent research and communication skills


The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is an independent civilian-led agency with jurisdiction to investigate police-related incidents of death or serious harm to determine whether or not an officer may have committed an offence.

The Police Act creates the IIO and defines its powers. The IIO reports to the Attorney General; however, investigations and decisions are operationally independent of the government.

The IIO has jurisdiction over all provincial policing agencies, including municipal police agencies, the RCMP, the South Coast BC Transportation Authority Police Service, and the Stl'atl'imx Tribal Police Service.

The IIO's jurisdiction also extends to officers appointed as special provincial constables, municipal constables, and includes on
- and off-duty officers.


Reporting to the Director Investigations, the Forensic Digital Analyst performs specialized technical work, utilizing forensic video analysis and techniques to support an IIO investigation, including providing expert evidence in court proceedings.

Acts as the "go-to" person for Investigators, Directors, Chiefs of Investigations and Chief Civilian Director on digital, and software-related questions.

This position will require the incumbent to be appointed with Peace Officer designation.


Job Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Completion of a minimum two (2) year accredited technical diploma program in video technology, television production, or another discipline relevant to the field of digital forensics. Preference will be given to the completion of a LEVA certification.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in the field of multimedia video production & editing, or in a video technology role within the last five (5) years. Preference will be given to experience in a law enforcement environment.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.
Preference will be given to applicants with both of the following:

  • Completion of a LEVA certification.
  • Experience in a law enforcement environment.

Willingness/Proviso Statements:

  • Must be able to travel within the province, sometimes on short notice.
  • Exposure to video/still imagery of a sensitive, graphic, and disturbing nature while carrying out duties, sometimes for prolonged periods of time. Must hold a valid BC Driver's licence or eligible to obtain a valid BC Driver's licence.
