    Influence complex natural resource initiatives


The Ministry of Forests is responsible for the stewardship of provincial Crown land and ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land-based resources.

The Ministry works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies.


Working in a regional team, the wildlife biologist develops knowledge and understanding of wildlife populations within Kootenay boundary region to improve stewardship and management.

The wildlife biologist will be required to work with local indigenous nations, other government ministries and programs, and various stakeholders on wildlife stewardship and management.


Job Requirements:


Education & Designation

  • Undergraduate Degree or higher in biological sciences or equivalent (e.g., natural resource management, ecology, zoology, hydrology, forestry, etc) PLUS 2 years of related experience
  • Registered (or immediately eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within 6 months of employment.

Note:

Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a Professional Biologist (RP Bio) with the College of Applied Biology within 6 months of appointment.

Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be confirmed. If you are not currently registered, advise how you have confirmed with the CAB that you are immediately eligible.


2 years of experience in each of the following, or a combination totaling 2 years:

  • Experience in wildlife management, including field-based biological sampling, analysis and reporting
  • Experience in providing wildlife management advice within a regulatory regime. Experience assessing and monitoring natural resources.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:


  • Experience engaging and coordinating with indigenous nations on projects or field settings.
  • Experience leading staff in project or field settings.

Willingness Statements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid British Columbia class 5 driver's licence.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
  • Willingness to conduct field work in all weather conditions and environments. This may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in camp conditions and operation of a variety of equipment. Willingness to meet safety standards of WorkSafe B.C.
