    Posting Information Posting Number CK53251P Position Title Traffic Signals Technician No. of Staff Required 1 Position Type FT If Term position, enter length of Term in months n/a Position Groups IBEW Division Infrastructure (DV220) Department Roadways Operations (DP212) Branch Traffic Signals and Systems (BR219) Organizational Information Purpose of your Position - Non Union Classification Summary - Union A Traffic Signal Technician troubleshoots, maintains, repairs and programs electrical, data and electronic systems for alltraffic signals and associated equipment and software . A Traffic Signal Technician is a lead and key point of contactfor internal and external customers on traffic signal operations. Duties - Union
    • Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs and programs all traffic signal systems which includes controllers; EconoliteASC3 and Cobalt, detection systems; video, thermal, radar and inductive loop, communications; radios, fiberoptic, LAN and IP address control, emergency vehicle preemption systems and UPS's.

    • Upgrades and maintains all traffic signal equipment software, including central management systems. Ensures traffic data backed up and archived.

    • Procures and organizes materials, equipment and labour for work projects.

    • Oversees and inspects work performed by contractors.

    • Communicates with customers, contractors and City crews on traffic signal related issues.

    • Provides emergency response to breakdowns.

    • Involved in design and install of new traffic signal and ITS systems.

    • Ensures compliance with electrical and safety codes; maintains permits, reports and logbooks.

    • Designated as Field Safety Representative under the BC Safety Authority. Consults with BC Safety Authority on code compliance and project design, where necessary.

    • Works collaboratively with other departments on infrastructure project planning, proposals, systems andservice issues pertaining to traffic signal operation and intelligent transportation system.

    • Researches, recommends and carries out pilot studies of new emerging technology.

    • Researches and completes on -going training so as to stay relevant in the field of expertise. (ie ITS, controller, detection and communication).

    • Provides information and input on related policies, guidelines and standards. Results and Activities - Non union Credentials - Union
    • Red Seal Journeyman Electrician Certification

    • FSR B certification with BC Safety Authority.

    • Electrical/Electronics Engineering Diploma or five years experience working with electronic control
    systems.

    • IMSA Level II Traffic Signal Technician Certification

    Knowledge - Non Union Skills & Abilities - Non Union Competencies
    • Experience with Econolite controllers, video detection systems, radio and fiber communication systems
