Component Manager - Dartmouth, Canada - Ultra Electronics
Description
To support the component and obsolescence management of parts and BOMs used at all stages of the development lifecycle allowing the business to successfully undertake a wide variety of technical and engineering work from a project's initial design to long-term product support.
Ensuring that suitable, obtainable, compliant and economic solutions are found for all components selected for programmes across the business. Manage complete component lifecycles, compliance, availability/quality issues, etc. to support Engineering in selection of components.Internally and Externally develop networks and build key relationships to increase capability of the team to effectively deal with late-stage Procurement issues.
From a holistic perspective maintain the quality and consistency of all assigned component databases and libraries ensuring all components are adequately specified.
To conduct component engineering activities, either alone on a small project or as part of a larger project team, adhering to Engineering Function processes and any project-specific tailoring of those processes.
A Component Engineer will be responsible for:
- [All] Conducting Component Engineering tasks throughout the engineering development lifecycle, consisting of (but not limited to):
- Part selection, creation and maintenance within Parts libraries and databases. (incl. Obsolescence management, duplication identification, ensuring minimum levels of consistency and quality of all part data).
- Providing sound technical advice/assistance in connection with component support to engineering (e.g. identification of an alternative part, BOM checking)
- Cross geographic engagement and support of engineering activities across the whole OBU.
- Review and support in the creation/management of engineering BOMs and other design documentation.
- Support to Procurement and Production.
- Maintain and develop functional skills relevant to Component Management within the OBU.
- Identify training needs and develop personal career path to support the personal development process.
- [Senior / Principal] Support the continued improvement of the company's Component Management processes and procedures.
- Adhere to the company's Component Management processes and procedures.
- Use of software version control tools and issue tracking tools during all activities.

Work with the Safety team to ensure Environmental knowledge is current and up to date.

A Component Engineer will be accountable for:
