Directions Youth Services is a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV), which for more than 90 years has provided a variety of essential resources for children, families and individuals in the Greater Vancouver community.

We believe in the resiliency of Vancouver's youth who are at-risk, homeless, and street-involved. We

assist youth under the age of 25 to get counselling for trauma, mental health or substance issues.

Our teams strive to create spaces and build connections with youth who are facing challenges of street life, substance use, mental health concerns, and disconnection from their communities.

Directions inclusive programs of shelter and drop-in,


safe houses and other unique programs are committed to being a community leader in harm reduction work and fostering low-barrier spaces where all youth are welcome.

These are hourly positions that reports to the Manager of Supported Housing and Transitions. These positions support youth, 16-19 years old, who are living in independent suites in The Kettle on Burrard.

In collaboration with the 10K program coordinator, the 10K Housing Assistance Worker will encourage and support positive youth engagement opportunities through individualized service planning, weekly groups and on-site evening activities.

Youth are referred to this program by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) and Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services (VACFSS).

Salary:
GS7, Step 1 $23.39 per hour

What you bring:

Education, Training, Experience

  • Completion or in process of obtaining a 2year diploma in youth care, related field or 2 years postsecondary in related field.
  • 2+ years' experience working with highrisk youth.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Professional verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of issues/needs of high risk and/or streetinvolved youth including harm reduction and low barrier resources.
  • Create and maintain a safe and positive culture through role modelling and presence on the floor.
  • Ensure a welcoming and respectful environment that reflects the diverse youth population we serve.
  • Assist 10K program supervisor and 10K youth Worker in the assessment of each youth's readiness for, confidence in and motivation for change.
  • In collaboration with the 10K program supervisor and 10K youth worker, plan and facilitate onsite life skill programming and recreation/communitybased activities.
  • Ensure effective communication and assessment through reporting and log entries, both verbal and written.
  • Maintain facility upkeep including cleaning, laundry, inventory and restocking supplies
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, supervision sessions and performance evaluations processes.
  • Maintain professional and positive relationships with MCFD, other service providers and community partners
  • Responsible for remaining uptodate on current best practices and available resources.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures while maintaining professional standards of ethics and confidentiality set forth by FSGV.

Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of criminal record check
  • Current First Aid, Foodsafe Level 1 and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificates are an asset
  • Proof of Covid19 vaccination status will be required.
