Department:


The Finance Department at Tangerine is primarily responsible for the capture and reporting of financial information for internal and external audiences in accordance with applicable standards.

In addition, the Finance Department performs other important functions.

The Treasury Administration function administers securitization transactions and ensures transaction details are accurately captured in our administrative systems so that they can be properly valued, accurately accounted for and appropriately cash settled.

The Accounts Payable team ensures that all outstanding obligations are discharged on a timely basis.

The Management Accounting Team provides reporting and analysis to support senior management decision making and prepares forecasts each month as to the Bank's expected earnings.

Furthermore, the Management Accounting Team works with the Strategy department and the business to prepare the annual Plan.


The Finance Department continually assesses risks and controls and takes action to ensure there is an effective system of internal control over financial reporting and other Finance functions.

Finance also supports the business to ensure the successful implementation of corporate initiatives.


Job Purpose:


The Senior Analyst, General and Tax Accounting is primarily responsible for the monthly tax provisions and indirect returns, processing of accounting entries accurately and on a timely basis, daily interest reasonability analysis on the Bank's deposit and consumer loan products and daily FX OTC reasonability.

This entails working in close contact with BNS or tax stakeholders with respect to tax functions and with various cost centre designates for operating expense accruals.

The Senior Analyst, General and Tax Accounting reports to the Manager of General Accounting.


Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Prepare the monthly income tax provision entries and monthly/quarterly and selected annual indirect tax returns, on-line filings and payment requisitions
  • Assist in the preparation of annual income and indirect tax returns, provide data/files to BNS/tax stakeholders and be the point of contact to facilitate information transfer as needed
  • Maintain tax files including but not limited to installments, tax returns, QST/HST/GST filings, contemporaneous documentation and T106's.
  • Prepare yearend T4A-NR slips and returns which are not generated by business lines;
  • Assist in obtaining completed foreign jurisdiction tax forms in order to facilitate Bank transactions.
  • Prepare related party note backup for the annual financial statements for Bank and subsidiaries
  • Respond to external/internal auditors queries; federal and provincial as well as contacting various provincial and federal jurisdictions as required.
  • Prepare daily FX, interest reasonability analysis for deposit and consumer loan products.
  • Process operating expense accruals, field questions/provide training regarding accruals from/to cost center owners and analysis; process other manual entries as required.
  • Process accounting entries for the mutual fund lines of business and review monthly reports.
  • Crosstrain with other general accounting staff at least annually to ensure coverage
  • Document and maintain policies and procedures.
  • Identify and implement improvements on a continuous basis.
  • Assist in the implementation of new/changed products, systems and processes
  • Prepare monthly analysis reports and assist in the development of other financial reports as needed.
  • Provide operating and tax expense analysis to support the preparation of quarterly commentaries for the Board
  • Other duties as assigned.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Education/Experience
  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in Finance or Business
  • Minimum of 35 years of work experience in the finance or accounting area
  • Professional Certification
  • Completion of a financial accounting designation is an asset (Canadian or overseas) or relevant experience
  • Specialized Knowledge
  • Understanding of IFRS requirements
  • Good knowledge of general accounting and finance
  • Technical Skills
  • Systematic approach to problem solving
  • Strong computer skills with advanced proficiency in Excel and Access
