    Overview


    The Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPT) role is a regulated one that mandates the individual to hold a license from the provincial pharmacy college. In addition to tasks within the scope of a pharmacy assistant, the RPT can carry out certain limited activities under the indirect supervision of a pharmacist. The technician's authorized duties are restricted by legal regulations set by Provincial Pharmacy Regulatory Bodies. It is crucial for both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to have a clear understanding of tasks permitted for RPTs.



    Job Description


    • Prepare, process, and compound various prescriptions independently
    • Review and transcribe verbal prescriptions from practitioners (excluding specific types)
    • Validate the completeness and authenticity of prescriptions
    • Handle transfer and reception of prescriptions with other pharmacies
    • Ensure accuracy in prepared prescriptions
    • Conduct the final check on prepared prescriptions
    • Maintain accuracy of drug and personal health information in patient records

    An RPT is authorized to perform these activities only under specific conditions, including pharmacist assessment and patient consultation requirements.



    Job Requirements

    • Completion of Pharmacy Technician Certification
    • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
    • Above-average oral and written communication skills
    • Strong organizational abilities and keen attention to detail
    • Prior experience with Lawtons Drugs/Sobeys Pharmacy Computer systems preferred
    • Relevant post-secondary education is a plus
    • Outstanding customer service aptitude
    • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting
    • Availability for daytime, evening, and weekend shifts
