Position Overview:


Under the direction of the Director of Resident Services the recreation facilitator will plan and provide Therapeutic Recreation Services for patients/residents in accordance with overall goals based on assessment of the patients/residents.


Experience:


  • One to two years related experience in the provision of recreation services in a health care setting preferred.
  • Experience in working with the older adult preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate):


  • Graduate of Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults from Red River College Certificate Program or equivalent.

Certification/Licensure/Registration:


  • Recommended membership in Therapeutic Recreation Manitoba or equivalent.
  • Food handler Certificate required.
  • Participation in the Recreation Facilitator Interest group encouraged.

Qualifications and Skills:


  • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and Principles of Routine Practices.
  • Regional, site and unit policies and procedures.
  • Roles and responsibilities of members of the health care team.
  • General skills and ability to perform all tasks and responsibilities relevant to the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assigned workload.
  • Ability to perform as a team member and seek assistance as necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral English.
  • Ability to relate to people in a tactful, courteous and reassuring manner.
  • Ability to organize and establish priorities and respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
  • Ability to be discreet and confidential in all hospital/patient/resident related matters.
  • Ability to recognize and pursue selfdevelopment opportunities.

Physical Requirements:


  • Good physical and mental health to meet the position demands.


Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions across the WRHA legal entity that combine to equal more than 1.0 EFT.

The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services.

Effective April 1, 2024, Golden West Centennial Lodge will also be part of the WRHA legal entity.
