Work schedule: 37.5 hours / week; 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday to Friday - on call required


Position Summary


Reporting to the Director, Facilities Management & Strategic Projects, the Manager, Facilities & Construction is responsible to manage multiple functions of building operations and maintenance for the Providence Motherhouse and Providence Village Inc.

(PVI or "the Village").

The Manager will also support the Director in the delivery of Capital Projects and site construction, as well as activities associated with partners and tenants.

As an operational manager, they will assist with maintenance duties when staff are ill or absent as required.

The Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul are a congregation of Roman Catholic women founded in Kingston, Ontario on December 13, 1861. Providence Motherhouse at 1200 Princess Street is the home of the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul and the administrative centre for the congregation and its ministries as a private home, including PVI. It is also a home to members of the Congregation of Notre Dame and the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph.

Responsibilities:


  • Collaborates with the Director to establish the construction and maintenance program objectives in keeping with overall organization objectives, capital construction projects, and considers variables such as priorities, availability of staff, financial resources, and the evolution of PVI
  • Manages the maintenance of upgrades/modifications and monitoring of the Central Utility plant and associated equipment by ensuring internal staff are trained and external vendors and contractors are available to provide support as required
  • Coordinates, oversees and/or manages preventative maintenance and repairs of the buildings, grounds, equipment, machines, appliances, and furnishings performed by Motherhouse staff, vendors and contractors to ensure availability and proper utilization of financial and human resources
  • Reviews work orders to ensure assignments are completed
  • Manages vendor relationships
  • Provides leadership and coordination of capital projects within the Village to protect operations and minimize disruptions to the Motherhouse
  • Manages environmental waste in collaboration with the Housekeeping & Laundry team for shared staff resources
  • Monitors utility consumption to ensure costs are controlled and systems are operating efficiently; takes action to correct problems that are impacting utility consumption
  • Identifies opportunities for energy conservation and in consultation with the Director; develops business case(s) to move forward with energy conservation initiatives
  • Monitors and controls the department budgets; ensures adherence to program budgetary guidelines and minimizes costs where possible while ensuring projects are completed in accordance with quality standards
  • Provides onsite coordination and regularly tours the site and buildings to ensure safety and quality standards are being met by facilities staff, as well as external contractors
  • Ensures the organization is able to meet its due diligence requirements by providing adequate support and resources to the Joint Health and Safety Program, and ensuring all policies, procedures and legislative requirements are adhered to; ensures hazards/incidents are reported according to the policy of the organization and of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and ensures staff are informed appropriately
  • Participates on the site Joint Health & Safety Committee when required, conducting all department inspections, investigating accident(s), making the appropriate recommendation(s) to prevent similar accident(s), and
