Manager, Legal to join the Legal & Real Estate team located in our South Edmonton Corporate Head Office.

The

Manager, Legal will provide effective and efficient management of the Legal and Insurance departments and provide legal and real estate related services to Fountain Tire businesses


Regular duties will include:

Leadership

  • Provide leadership to the Legal Team members through effective performance management, daily mentorship, and ensure a continuum of skill development to achieve success.
  • Maintain strong relationships between other departments at Fountain Tire Place and with Store Managers.
  • Lead the Legal Team's annual budgeting process, including analyzing and forecasting costs.
  • Coordinate the work of the internal team and external counsel where needed.
  • Develop and ensure compliance with the terms of the Legal Team's program of services.
  • Ensure Legal projects are aligned with overall organization requirements.
  • Lead/participate in special projects and/or crossfunctional teams with internal and external groups to improve current processes and/or enhance business information system functionality.

Legal Services

  • Oversee the design and delivery of the Legal and Insurance programs.
  • Lead asset purchase / business acquisition transactions from a legal perspective including preparation and/or negotiation of all related documents, closing procedures (signing, payments, holdbacks).
  • Lead corporate share transactions, in partnership with the share transaction team; this includes management of shelf company supply, drafting of related documents, closing procedures (signing, payments, reporting).
  • Ensure corporate precedents continue to meet requirements, review and update with legal counsel as required.
  • Prepare, review and modify real estate commercial lease related documents to assist and support real estate and expansion business activities, including negotiations on content with opposing parties and involvement with legal counsel as required.
  • Review general contracts for various Fountain Tire Place teams and Stores, and assess legal implications and assist with revisions, including involvement of legal counsel as required.
  • Lead the strategic design, development and implementation of all insurance processes including coverage, claims, risk management and reporting.
  • Manage critical internal information records and communication (ownership, legal names, insurance values, security filings) for use by all Fountain Tire Place Teams.
  • Lead special projects and/or crossfunctional teams as assigned.

Innovation

  • Participate in the review, recommendation and implementation of best practices for all aspects of Legal services.
  • Participate in all safety initiatives, as required or assigned, to guarantee Safety at Fountain Tire.

The necessary experience, knowledge, skills and abilities required in the role:

  • A University law degree or paralegal diploma with 10 years corporate/business experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • 5 years legal experience related to property leasing
  • 23 years general administration of insurance programs
  • 5 years leadership experience (leading projects and managing associates)
  • Proven ability for contract review, negotiation, preparation and administration related to general, real estate and corporate contracts.
  • Strong understanding of insurance program (coverage required, reporting, claims management, risk management).
  • Strong analytical abilities, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to provide advice (orally and in writing) to senior level management.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead, manage and work within a team environment.
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively, prioritize and execute multiple projects and direct the work of others.
  • Proven facilitation and collaboration skills.
  • Strong computer skills including advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
