    Position Overview

  • The Engineering, Parks and Environment Department (Engineering Operations) requires temporary fulltime Labourer 2 employees for the summer season (starting in April for approximately five or six months).
    Responsibilities
  • All positions will provide unskilled and limited semiskilled manual work that requires considerable physical effort and agility. Work assignments may also be in any of the Engineering Operations work sections, based on operational requirements.
  • Some examples of work performed in our Utilities section include performing tasks in the construction and maintenance of water distribution, sanitary collection, and/or storm collection systems. In our Streets section, work will include the construction and repair of sidewalks, curbs and gutters, roads and pavement maintenance, litter collection and boulevard maintenance, and in our Parks section, work will include general landscape, horticulture and arboriculture duties, turf maintenance tasks and/or natural areas maintenance.

Requirements:


  • You will have some related experience in Utilities, Streets or Parks construction and maintenance and possess knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in related work, preferably in a municipal environment. Skill in the operation of power and hand tools is required as well as demonstrated ability to perform heavy physical labouring/manual work in all types of weather. You must also be able to deal effectively with the public and embrace values such as teamwork, respect, a positive attitude, professionalism and integrity. A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License is required. Completion of courses provided by the EOCP or a technical school leading to a trades qualification, degree, diploma or certificate would be an asset.
    Compensation
- $33.26 per hour- (January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work

  • 7:00am 3:30pm Monday to Friday
