General Summary

The ReStore Associate is the front line and public face of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. You project professionalism and welcome to customers and the community - in person and by phone.


Your contribution to the customer experience begins with the receipt of donations, and continues through testing, processing and pricing of goods, to merchandising and sales.

Your day will be a continuous bustle of physical activity, marked by frequent interruptions and shifting priorities, all aimed at appreciating our donors, satisfying our customers and allowing the Habitat for Humanity ReStore (ReStore) to be a major contributor to Habitat for Humanity's mission to provide affordable homeownership for hard-working families.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties

The ReStore Associate reports to the ReStore Manager or designate. The incumbent participates in the day-to-day operations of the ReStore in accordance with established policies, procedures, and practices.

Customer Experience

  • Provide positive, professional interactions with customers in person and on the phone at all times
  • Maintain a high standard for cleanliness, neatness, functionality, and overall presentation of the facility
  • Ensure product is displayed and merchandised for optimum exposure and salebility
  • Ensure displays are updated regularly and kept current
  • Generate sales and identify and capitalize on upselling opportunities
  • Process daily pointofsale (cash register or POS) transactions, including cash and credit card transactions
  • Reconcile daily sales against register receipts
  • Implement policies and procedures as specified by the ReStore Manager or delegate
  • Undertake other related duties as identified by the ReStore Manager or delegate
  • Donor Experience
  • Adhere to established Donor Experience guidelines and processes
  • Provide positive, professional interactions with donors at all times
  • Screen donated goods for suitability
  • Receive/unload donated goods at the ReStore
  • Decline unsuitable donated goods tactfully, while preserving the goodwill of the donor
  • Process, test, and price goods for movement to the sales floor
  • Operate a forklift and other warehouse equipment as required
  • Assist in taking calls for donations following Donor Experience process
  • Staff and Volunteer Management
  • Work with and direct other staff and volunteers of varying abilities and backgrounds as per instructions from the ReStore Manager or delegate
  • Assist in identification, recruitment, and training of volunteers for ReStore.
  • Loss Prevention & Risk Management
  • Report suspicious activity to the ReStore Manager or delegate
  • Work following safety policies and procedures
  • General Administration
  • Ensure adherence to ReStore policies, procedures and practices
  • Ensure occupational health and safety guidelines are followed at all times including reporting all incidents and hazards to the ReStore Manager or delegate
  • Ensure the following forms are completed, when applicable:
  • Volunteer Release Waiver & Safety Guidelines
  • Volunteer Sign-In Sheets
  • Incident Reports
  • Timesheets

Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated professionalism in communication, appearance, and conduct
  • Excellence in customer service
  • High degree of integrity and business ethics
  • Adaptability to changing priorities
  • Effectiveness in addressing customer queries and complaints
  • Competency in the assessment of the condition of home improvement goods, furniture, home accessories, building materials, and appliances for resale
  • Proven success in maximizing profitability and meeting sales targets
  • Aptitude for merchandising, marketing and promotions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with occupational health and safety programs
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and spend the day on your feet in a busy retail environment
  • Possession of a valid Forklift Operator license or willingness and ability to become certified immediately
  • Ability to work Saturdays as scheduled.
  • D License desired
  • G License required
