We are currently looking for a
Payroll Specialist month contract) for our Corporate Office located in
Mississauga.

In this role, you will assist the Payroll team in day to day payroll processing of the semi-monthly payroll including assisting manager and employees with payroll inquiries.


Responsibilities:


  • Process complex, multiprovincial, multiunion Canadian payroll for all provinces, overseeing the timely preparation, processing, maintenance and appropriate distribution of payroll information, payroll reports, payroll manuals and related payroll working instructions.
  • Process but not limited to salary/wages increases, benefit deductions, employee terminations, as well as review and approve the preview register
  • Process new hire setup, salary/wages increases, benefit deductions, employee terminations, etc within empath payroll system
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance & control by ensuring systems and processes are compliant with Canadian Provincial & Federal legislation.
  • Continuously improving a customer service culture to drive positive change to take payroll function to the next level. You will know when to push back, escalate, and when to go above and beyond to satisfy an employee.
  • Maximize the effectiveness of technologies and supporting processes to drive continuous improvement and change initiatives.
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures: Responsible for updating current documents with detail and document new processes where required.
  • Provide support to the entire organization regarding all payrollrelated matters as needed; Monitor Payroll inbox and reply in a timely manner.
  • Assist the Payroll Manager on projects, audits and special requests from internal and external stakeholders.

Skills/Experience:


  • Certified Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation is required.
  • 1+ years of payroll experience is required.
  • Experience & knowledge of Inhouse systems specifically Empath is an asset.
  • Comfortable with manual data entry and other manual payroll processes such as keying New Hires.
  • Implementation experience an asset, SAP preferred (EC & ECP).
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships, internal and external to the organization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (English)
  • Ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanor.
  • Strong problem solving skills for the analysis of issues and the creation of action plans.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel (VLOOKUPs & Pivot Tables.)
  • Proven ability to multitask, prioritize and stay organized independently in fastpaced environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Passionate about numerical data and complex calculations.
  • Relevant education in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration, Human Resources or another relevant field is an asset.
  • Expert knowledge of payroll tax law & Employment Standards in Canada.
  • Work independently and be selfmotivated while still working within a team environment.
  • You can adapt to Company specific systems and processes.
  • Ability to work flexible hours during peak periods.
