    Job Duties


Reporting to the Manager, IR&A, Strategy Management, the Research Officer will play a larger role in the provision of business intelligence (i.e., value-added information, filterable integrated survey and statistical data sets and dashboards), as well as assisting in the management of IR&A's ongoing research and reporting activities.


Key Responsibilities include:

  • Lead primary research (survey) activities of the Institutional Research & Analysis Office
  • Provide secondary research services such as environmental scans, benchmarking, etc.
  • Serve as a key institutional data steward, maintaining expertise regarding institutional data, data definitions and business reporting rules; undertaking data validation in legacy and reporting databases; managing data quality; documentation; and ensuring data access and delivery to clients.
  • Serve as official releasor for student statistics, program data and performance metrics
  • Advance the implementation of business analytics software to transform data into business intelligence (i.e., filterable dashboards, trends, performance metrics visualized, etc.)
  • Other administrative services as required to support IR&A office (i.e., procedures documentation, staff training, development of reference materials, intranet page maintenance)

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)

  • Bachelor's degree with statistical research knowledge (i.e., Commerce, Psychology, Economics or Statistics, or related discipline), or an equivalent combination of training and experience in an institutional research environment.
  • Experience in the use of statistical software (i.e., SPSS - Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) and the Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data collection, analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with survey methodology (i.e., design, sampling), administration (i.e., online, Remark scanable paper surveys, telephone) and advanced statistical analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating ability to interpret, summarize and present value-added information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Experience extracting and working with large datasets from an Oracle database environment (i.e., Oracle Discoverer, SQL, Microsoft Access)
  • Technically proficient, with training in or experience using business analytics - data transformation and visualization tools (i.e., Tableau, Cognos, SAS)
  • Proven project management skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, prioritizing and performing multiple tasks within time constraints and through interruptions
  • Proven critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Data stewardship focus, demonstrating attention to detail and quality assurance
  • Strong interpersonal skills, working well within a team environment and across departments
