About the Position
Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home is seeking a Activity Attendant who is committed to providing optimal
resident care and is dedicated to the NHNH Mission by enriching lives with dignity, care and compassion.


Position Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful Therapeutic Recreational
Programs for residents, in collaboration with the Activation Coordinator;

  • Maintain effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and
staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;

  • Complete Surge Learning online LTC training monthly in order to keep informed of current trends in
the total care of the elderly;

  • Assist with maintenance of appropriate department records;
  • Completing Long Term Care Recreation Initial Assessments and RAI/MDS Assessments;
  • Completing and updating Resident Care Plans and documenting progress notes in Point Click Care
  • Assessing individual resident activity levels in Activity Master Program;
  • Completing Program Plan Evaluations;
  • Charting POC Food and Fluid intake;
  • Assisting with meal services as required;
  • Implement Montessori Programming;
  • Facilitating Sensory Programming using equipment in our onsite Multi-Sensory Room;
  • Facilitate Ex N' Flex exercise equipment;
  • Participate in LTC Residents Council Meetings;
  • Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities as well as facilitating residents to scheduled and

- pre-arranged outings;
  • Adherence to all health and safety policies, procedures and provisions and the recognition and
- reporting of unsafe hazards and work practices;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary diploma or degree in recreational and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation or other
related field from a recognized post-secondary institution;

  • Previous experience working in therapeutic recreation in Long Term Care with a geriatric population;
  • Provincial driver's license to transport residents by van (i

e:
Class F);

  • Smart Serve Certification;
  • Certified in CPR Training;
  • Experience with Point Click Care (RAI/MDS, Care Planning), POC and Activity Master an asset;
  • Experience in Montessori and Multi-Sensory Programming, preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated flexibility in times of increased workload;
  • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly;
  • Experience in maintaining confidentiality and discretion in patient/record contacts;

Hours of Work:


  • Must work shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
