Description

POSITION MANDATE
Provides leadership for financial management and reporting for TPS, ensuring accurate information and analysis to senior management. Oversees all aspects of Human Resources (HR), Information Technology (IT) and Administration.


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Finance Management

  • Oversees financial operations including the review of journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing and statutory reporting.
  • Manages and resolves issues re accounts payable, account receivable, payroll, general ledger, etc.
  • Establishes and monitors internal controls consistent with best practice as well as legal, regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Provides advice and guidance on financial matters to staff and senior management.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepares and presents financial information for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements and external reporting as required.
  • Generates and analyzes performancetobudget reports.
  • Provides strategic analysis as required to support informed decision making.
  • Provides monthly reporting of IT updates on Help Desk, projects, security and data management.

Budget and Year End

  • Works with external accountants, coordinating the flow of records and information for preparation of annual audited financial statements.
  • Coordinates the annual budget process and compiles the operating and capital budgets in consultation with senior management.
  • Reviews and presents the annual budget to the GM for final approval.
  • Monitors the approved annual budget. Analyzes variances and communicates these as necessary.

Corporate Services

  • Oversees all aspects of the finance/accounting, human resources (HR), administration and information technology (IT) functions.
  • Develops effective and efficient processes for conducting business activities.
  • Acts as the key contact with bankers, insurance providers, external accountants, etc.

Supervision

  • Reviews and approves staff time and assignments.
  • Allocates resources, managing the team's time across several projects.
  • Conducts technical reviews of others' work.
  • Provides feedback and coaching, completes and conducts annual performance appraisals for direct reports. Ensures all staff receive performance reviews. Addresses chronic performance matters.

Senior management

  • Collaborates with senior leaders to guide the organization and its business based on data and relevant input.
  • Participates in senior management discussions and decisions around strategic direction, planning, resource allocation and business development for TPS. Plays a key role in informing decisions related to the finance/accounting, administration, HR and IT functions.
  • Communicates and models the organization's mission, vision and core values. Actively encourages behaviors and initiatives that reflect the mission, vision and core values.
  • Influences the development of a framework for corporate policies and procedures related to the finance/ accounting, administration, HR and IT functions.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of practices and procedures used to optimize workforce effort and to ensure continuous reliable operations in support of TPS business and financial management objectives.
  • Collaborates in the resolution of competing internal and external interests.
  • Assesses TPS, and the finance/accounting, administration, HR and IT functions, with an eye to identifying potentially significant disruptions in the mid
- to long-term. Raises emerging concerns and engages senior managers in collective assessment and problem solving to avoid or mitigate such disruptions.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


The position requires a university degree in Business/Accounting and a CPA designation with a minimum of 15 years experience including some supervisory or management experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
